Ever been to Évora? If not (and why not?), get hither with immediacy: this fab and ancient city dates back at least five thousand years, was roamed in by J Caesar and pals, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its old centre including 14th-century walls, medieval streets, and posh 16th-century patrician villas. (And if you're not into trekking around such historic piles? You might be interested to know instead that Évora is regularly classed as the second most splendid place to live in all of Portugal, and so should be on any Portuguese travel list.) A two-kilometre amble from this excellent old town lies peaceful and family-friendly Parque Orbitur Évora, for a serene stay north of the Algarve. It's well kitted out for days on site in between exploring Évora, with an outdoor pool and a paddling pool, a big play area shaded by trees, tennis courts and a TV room. The spacious snack bar comes with a terrace for alfresco eats and drinks. Also on site are well-maintained showers and toilets, a covered washing-up area, and a bath. Dogs are allowed.

Great spot, an easy stroll to historic Évora with good public transport. Staff are super friendly & helpful, facilities are spotless, pool's a treat. Pitches are spacious, clean, and shady. Minor Wi-Fi, dog noise, and shop limits mentioned, but mostly outweighed by the positives.

Liked Mooie en ruime parkeerplekken. Het sanitair is netjes en wordt elke dag grondig schoongemaakt.
De douches waren warm en ruim. Voldoende afwasplekken met warm water.
Dicht bij de stad gelegen, ongeveer 20 minuten lopen. Aardig personeel.

Disliked Slechte Wifi. Alleen in 1 gebouw.

Liked Todo salvo el horario de cierre nocturno. Tratandose de un camping cerrar la cancela de entrada a las 23h me parece un impedimento enorme para el campista. El telefono no sirve. Salvo eso lo demas estupendo!

Liked It was a lovely site, well organised with some larger pitches for the caravanners amongst us!! The swimming pool area and sun loungers looked lovely & inviting, but wenever had time to use them. Good to be close to town.

Disliked Not many provisions in the little shop, but its low season, so expect that.

Liked We like the lovely pool with plenty of sun beds beneath the trees, the clean bathrooms, the option to order bread and croissants, plenty of shady pitches with electric hook up. Best of all was the flat straightforward walk into the beautiful historical town of Evora.

Local attractions

Most excellent Évora is a most classy city, stuffed with old sights and buildings. There's loads to see, but a look at the university, cathedral, Roman temple, medieval walls and the Chapel of São Brás will hit the main sightseeing spots if you don't have heaps of time. Évora's a busy university town these days too, so finding a decent restaurant for some traditional Alentejan cuisine should be a cinch. Monsaraz, Estremoz, Vila Viçosa and Elvas are other recommended options around the Alentejo region, or you could bask on the lakeside beaches at Lake Maranhão, Montargil and Alqueva, and follow sunbathing sessions with a dip from the river beaches of Mora and Fronteira. If you're fortunate enough to be pottering around Portugal on a country tour, Lisbon is about an hour and a half to Évora's west, and the Algarve around two and a half hours to the south.
