Dances in the mornings, games in the afternoons and theatre and other glitzy shows in the evenings… what extensive leisure options are up for grabs at warm and friendly Camping Vinkenhof. And the aforementioned are only a teeny taste of what you can get up at this rightly popular South Netherlands and south Limburg site: it's fairly likely you'll be plotting a return visit before you even leave.
A peaceful and landscaped site surrounded by hills and greenery, family-friendly Camping Vinkenhof is a short and flat bike ride from Valkenburg, among the wildlife havens and hiking of Gerendal, the Sous Berg and the Geul river valley. The area is a cyclists' paradise: the Tour de France route has twice finished in the local town, so bike-riders will have weeks' worth of routes to try out.
The site is set on pretty and well-maintained grounds over two hectares, divided into several areas with a pick of shaded, sunny or partially shaded spots. There's stacks to do on site for all ages, including a heated pool with sun loungers and a paddling pool alongside, sporty options such as volleyball, table tennis and a bowling alley, and a ropes course for those eager to test their mettle.
More? The site also has a 30-metre cable car (for more testing of mettle), several playgrounds with covered sandboxes, and entertainment in July and August. A recreation room and shuffleboard area are around if you now need to take things down a notch… before an extensive sit down at the cosy heated pub with terrace, for drinks, snacks and takeaways.

Local attractions
Wake up in the peaceful Geul river valley for access to walking and cycling trails straight from the site, including the popular Blossom Walk among the flowers. A riding school is next door.
Three kilometres away, the old tourist town of Valkenburg has a ruined castle to explore (adding the requisite imaginative leap to picture yourselves in The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). Then have a more modern (but still imaginative, thanks) time with a visit to the other Valkenburg castles of Den Halder, Oost and Schaloen, followed by days at the Valkenier and Sprookjesbos family parks.
The guided tours available around the Valkenburg former marl quarries are also a great day out – one has been redesigned as a coal mine, another as the catacombs of Rome, and others as venues for Christmas markets. South east of Valkenburg is the village of Schin op Geul, a starting point for hikes up the surrounding hills for spectacular countryside views. The village also has a vintage steam train, the Miljoenenlijntje.
