It's free, quick and easy!
- Family-friendly site with lake beach 15 minutes' drive from Venray
- ZooParc Overloon and Maasduinen National Park within 15 minutes' drive
- Lots for kids to do, including playgrounds, activities and sports
Ah, that classic family holiday dilemma… you’d essentially like to sit down and put your feet up (perhaps with a snack and/or drink to hand) but your small sorts are desperate to run about as much as possible.
It’s possible the canny folks at Parc de Witte Vennen may just have the answer sorted, for they’ve cleverly placed their café right next to the site’s main playground and the lake beach, allowing the grownups to have coffee on the terrace or sunbathe on the sand while keeping an eye on the tiddlers as they play.
The excellent planning doesn’t stop there – there are more playgrounds scattered around the site, all designed to be within glancing distance of the pitches for easy supervision. And there’s plenty more to keep small guests amused too, with games of beach volleyball, tennis, table tennis, pétanque and miniature golf to play, a jumping pillow to bounce on and animals to meet at the meadow.
If they’re 12 or under it’s also possible that you may lose them entirely for a little while, as Ruud the forester spirits them away for activities, excursions and horse-drawn carriage rides. Should you prefer to take your excursions en famille, you can hire bikes to roam nearby or head off to one of the many amusement parks or family attractions nearby.

Local attractions
It’s not just the site itself that has things well sorted for keeping the nippers happy; this is an area full of fab family days out. With a drive of half an hour or less you can be meeting the animals at ZooParc Overloon, exploring everything strawberry-related at Het Aardbeienland or playing on the rides at Toverland amusement park.
If you prefer your days out to take in a bit more history, the excellent Overloon War Museum is a 15-minute drive away, or you could take a wander around the gorgeous gardens at Arcen Castle, 20 minutes away. Foodies who’ve ever wanted to learn more about mushrooms and asparagus can do so at Regional Museum de Locht, while those who enjoy a beer or two can tour and taste at Hertog Jan brewery in Arcen.
For outdoorsy types, the Maasduinen National Park, 15 minutes’ drive away, is a great place for walking, cycling and horse riding, and there’s a golf course around a 10-minute drive away.
