Keep it small and cosy for your Overijssel holiday with a stay at Kleine Camping de Duin. This quiet rural site is next to a farm about two kilometres from the town of Blokzijl, and it makes a lovely base for an outdoor break in this scenic part of the world.
There are heaps of options for getting out and about in this area – you can hire e-bikes nearby, take walks in the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, board boat trips or rent canoes for days of paddling along the local waterways. The gorgeous town of Giethoorn (aka the ‘Venice of the North’) is only about 10 minutes' drive away, and there's a pond a few minutes' walk from the pitches for swimming and fishing.
With all these activities to fill your days, it's good that this site is a fine place to have some relaxed downtime in between outings. Each grass pitch has an electric connection, and there are various handy facilities on site including a washing machine, showers, toilets and picnic tables. A small play area and trampoline should help to keep the kids entertained – and if rain stops play, they can head inside to the recreation room, which has a TV, books, games and comfy seating.
Barbecues are permitted here for those who'd like to try a bit of outdoor cooking; supplies can be picked up at the shops and supermarket in Blokzijl (five minutes away by bike), and the town also has restaurants and cafés.

Local attractions
Fishing and swimming in the on-site pond are both lovely activities – but what if it rains? Well, you’ll need to head to Forelwereld (15 minutes’ drive) for an unusual indoor trout fishing experience, or take your swimming togs along to the pool in Blokzijl (three minutes). There’s also an indoor/outdoor pool complex in Vollenhove (five minutes) and a recreational pool at Waterwyck (15 minutes) so water babies have plenty of choice.
There are lots of great walking and bike paths nearby, so bring your boots and/or bikes, or hire e-bikes at one of the local hubs (the closest being in Blokzijl). The Weerribben-Wieden National Park, a couple of kilometres away, is the most popular local destination, with the lakes, canals, woods and reedbeds home to lots of wonderful wildlife. You can explore by bike or on foot, or hire boats, canoes or paddleboards to get around.
For other days out, get along to the canals and bridges of Giethoorn (10 minutes) or see the colourful exotic plants and animals of Pantropica (15 minutes). The Hanseatic cities of Hasselt (20 minutes) and Zwolle (half an hour) could also be on the schedule.
