It's free, quick and easy!
- Family-friendly site three kilometres from the centre of Siena
- A 15-minute bus into Siena; Chianti vineyards from 15 minutes’ drive
- Large swimming pool, bar, restaurant and small food shop on site
Take up residence on the terrace for lunch or traditional Italian pizza, go for a dip in the pool or take the bus into medieval Siena in just 15 minutes… what splendid odds for your time at Villatent at Camping Colleverde. This family-friendly site is just three kilometres from the centre of Siena, you see, meaning that you could soon be watching the action from the Piazza del Campo, looking around the Duomo di Siena or climbing the Tower of Mangia.
What a location – and what a site too… there’s a large swimming pool surrounded by sunloungers (with the usual deep and shallow end for more cautious swimmers), as well as a bar to wash down any pizza you sample from the restaurant's traditional stone oven. If you’re looking for bits that can be whisked away, there’s also a small shop serving all the important groceries and fresh bread rolls.
Handily, there are shower and toilet facilities on the site, as well as parking for cars. With the bus stop into Siena being just 100 metres from the site, it’s likely the only time you’ll need your car is to get out into the vineyards and wineries across the Chianti region (from 15 minutes’ drive) – the wine is often served with tasty pecorino cheese.
Or for day trips… centrally located in Tuscany, Pisa is an hour and 45 minutes’ drive away and romantic Florence is an hour and five minutes’ drive – that’s if you’re not already preoccupied with Siena’s museums and art galleries or simply strolling the medieval cobbles.

Local attractions
If you’re lucky enough to be visiting in July and August, downtown Siena is closed off for the Palio di Siena, an iconic horse race held in the Piazza del Campo and a real bucket list experience.
San Gimignano (45 minutes’ drive) is another medieval location… up in the hills, the UNESCO World Heritage Site is circled by 13th-century walls, and a fine family activity is to tick off all the towers (or for you adults, finding somewhere splendid to sip on the white wine sourced from the surrounding hills).
Lucca (an hour and 30 minutes) is another walled city – feel free to cycle or walk along the 16th and 17th-century ramparts, as they have wide paths. Volterra (55 minutes) is a walled town with a cathedral, archaeological museum and a Roman theatre with ancient baths.
Leonardo Da Vinci was born in Vinci (an hour and 15 minutes), and gave it much of its fame, but visiting the museum dedicated to his life is an excellent way to get to know his life better (many of his paintings are stored here too).
