- Child-focused site with adventure courses in the Puglian countryside
- Lecce 20 minutes’ drive; Torre dell'Orso beaches 25 minutes
- Organised kids' activities; miniature golf course and play area
On a low hill surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, a five-minute drive from the Puglian town of Caprarica di Lecce, family-friendly Parco Avventura Salento Adventures has tents for hire, which makes it a great destination for anybody who has yet to take the leap and invest in their own camping gear. (Psst, a little insider tip: just do it. Camping is fab.)
The name says it all: this is a place for adventure, and the kids will likely spend much of their time on the treetop course, with its cargo-net bridges, balancing ropes and zipwires. They can also take part in organised activities aimed at honing their survival skills, such as fire building and knot making. At the end of the day, perhaps you can test them on what they’ve learned by letting them help you light the barbecue (which is provided as part of the tent setup).
There’s also a playground and a miniature golf course for children who might feel daunted by the height of the adventure course, along with on-site cycle hire, so the whole family can explore the local area on two wheels.
A snack bar serves breakfasts and light meals (plus cocktails for the elders), which you can consume at picnic tables in the shade of the pine trees while the kids make new friends and learn new skills.
The site has a toilet block and disabled facilities, but please note that there are no showers.

Local attractions
Kalòs Archeodromo del Salento (10 minutes’ walk) is a vast open-air museum illustrating millennia of human habitation in the area. You can explore reconstructed Bronze Age huts, Roman houses and a medieval village, before learning all about the rural culture of the Salento region in a typical farmhouse kitchen.
Baroque architecture is the distinguishing feature of the city of Lecce (20 minutes’ drive) – check out, for example, the ornate facades of the 17th-century Basilica di Santa Croce and Church of St Matthew. There's also a Roman amphitheatre and the medieval Carlo V castle.
The Salento is renowned for its spectacular coastline (half an hour). For a day at the seaside, head to Torre dell'Orso, where the sandy beach is backed by a pine grove. The archaeological area at Roca Vecchia has ancient cave dwellings, medieval watchtowers and natural pools.
