- Touring pitches on a goat farm a 25-minute drive from Novara
- Valle Ticino Nature Park 10 minutes’ drive; Arona half an hour
- Shop selling artisanal cheese; goat-themed activities; dogs welcome
Roll up with your campervan to Why Farm, in the Ticino Valley of north-eastern Piedmont, and prepare for a cheesy feast. That’s ‘cheesy’ in the best sense of the word – that is, real cheese, made on site with milk generously supplied by the resident herd of goats. And if you are into dairy products, the farm shop might feel as though all your Christmases have come at once, with a range of artisanal goat’s cheeses, plus free-range eggs and seasonal local produce.
This family-friendly site, a 25-minute drive from Novara (and half an hour from Arona, on Lake Maggiore), has spacious touring pitches and a toilet block (however, please note that there are no showers and no hot water, either). Special events and farm activities can be arranged, so if you fancy an ‘apericapra’ (a sort of goat-themed aperitif under a covered terrace), for example, or if you think your kids might be into bottle-feeding and getting to know the other kids (the baby goats, that is…), be sure to book it in advance.
Dogs are welcome, but bear in mind that this is a working farm, so please keep them on a lead while on site. Your canine buddy is also welcome to join you for walks at the Bosco Solivo Nature Reserve (20 minutes’ drive), an area of oak- and pine-covered hills with forested trails. Other walks (or bike rides) in the vicinity might take you to the Valle Ticino Nature Park (10 minutes), where you might spot squirrels, rabbits and hares, plus herons and mallards.
