It's free, quick and easy!
- Peaceful serviced pitches 15 minutes' walk from Trevignano Romano
- An hour's drive from Rome and Civitavecchia ferries
- Lake views and direct access to the shores of Lake Bracciano
A blue lake promises the site name, and a blue lake it certainly delivers (weather permitting, naturally). The aptly-named Blue Lake Camper is indeed right by the water just outside Trevignano Romano, in a peaceful spot with fab views out over Lake Bracciano.
Sit and simply stare out over the water if you wish (no one would blame you for being mildly mesmerised by that view…) or use it as inspiration to get active: a five-minute stroll takes you over to a watersports centre and a beach with a water park full of inflatable obstacles to clamber all over. If your appetite for lake views can be constricted to just one corner, how about a bike-based loop around the whole thing?
It’s a 36-kilometre road ahead if you choose to circumnavigate the lake, so upon return you’ll no doubt be chuffed to see there’s a bar and pizzeria just next door to the site (as indeed you may well be if you’re just planning a lazy evening…). If you’ve got a little more energy to devote to finding food, take the 15-minute walk up to Trevignano Romano for bars, ice cream shops and restaurants (most of which maximise that fab lake view). Supermarkets are halfway between the site and town, putting picnic supplies within a few minutes’ walk.
Looking to see a few more Lazio sights on your travels? A castle, army museum and several pretty villages are strewn along the lake shore, and it’s only about an hour’s drive to Rome…

Route directions
From Trevignano Romano, it's recommended that guests take Via Degli Asinelli rather than Via Della Rena, as it is a wider road.

Local attractions
Those views enticing you into a day in/on the lake? A couple of watersports centres are five minutes’ walk away for windsurfing, canoeing, paddleboarding and courses of lessons in how one should approach handling all such equipment. If you’d rather stay on the side of the scenery, there are plenty of pretty views over in Trevignano Romano (15 minutes’ walk), especially if you climb up a little for elevated lake views.
Head a bit further into the hills for hikes around the Monte Gelato waterfalls (25 minutes’ drive and sadly not actually formed of ice cream), or see the big birds take to the air at I Falchi di Rocca Romana bird park (five minutes). Back down by the water’s edge are the stunning Renaissance pile Castello Orsini-Odescalchi (15 minutes) and the excellent Italian Air Force Museum (20 minutes).
If your Italian trip isn’t complete without a tipple or few, there are a couple of wineries a few minutes’ drive away by the lake, or it’s an hour-long drive to the Frascati area for fans of light whites.
