Planning to park your motorhome or caravan somewhere close to the Campania coastline? You could hardly get much closer than Campo dei Rocchi – it’s a mere 50 metres from here to Giglio di Mare beach, which has both private and public areas. And that’s not all that’s convenient about this site – it’s also a short walk to the restaurants and bars along the beachfront and the promenade that connects you to the centre of Santa Maria di Castellabate, a couple of kilometres away and home to a good collection of shops, bars, restaurants and other amenities. The historic town of Castellabate is about 15 minutes’ drive away and accessible by bus if you don’t fancy the drive. Back on site, you’ll be staying on level and spacious pitches shaded by white poplar trees and designed with the needs of touring vehicles in mind. All the pitches here have an electricity connection as well as a fresh water hookup and grey and black water drainage. You’ll be allowed to set up your awning for a bit of extra shade and bring a barbecue along for some alfresco cooking if you like. Shared facilities on site include a launderette, a washing-up area, free outdoor (cold) showers and bathroom blocks with toilets, accessible facilities and coin-operated (hot) showers for men and women. Wifi and 24-hour CCTV are also provided, and you can hire bikes on site or book private shuttles for your days out.

Liked Locality to beach 50 metres with a nice bar and town if you have transport about 5 minutes or like a walk. Has showers and toilets but not used.

Local attractions

Once you’ve spent some time on the beach, how about finding out more about the sea you’ve been gazing at (and probably dipping into)? That might involve donning a mask or tank for snorkelling or diving with the nearby scuba diving centre (five minutes' drive) or perhaps learning a bit about marine life at Musea - Living Museum of the Sea Pioppi (35 minutes). Back on dry land, there are some lovely sea-view walks around the headland at Punta Licosa (20 minutes) or through the nature reserve at Monte Tresino (half an hour) – some of the trails here lead to the sea for a refreshing dip. To escape the warm weather and see some of the underground scenery you can also take a tour of Grotte di Castelcivita (55 minutes), one of Italy’s longest cave complexes at almost five kilometres. For some urban wanders, head to Castellabate (15 minutes) to visit the castle and medieval town centre, or climb the stairs to the Old Town and castle in Agropoli (20 minutes). The Archaeological Park of Paestum (half an hour) is a must-see for history fans – the UNESCO World Heritage Site houses some of the world’s best-preserved Ancient Greek temples.
