  • Small overnight campsite with security in coastal Campania
  • Salerno and Amalfi Coast half an hour’s drive; Paestum 25 minutes
  • Shops and beach both under 10 minutes’ walk; pizza delivery service
When you’re on the Amalfi Coast road-trip of your dreams and you need a secure overnight pitstop, CamperStop Lagomare has got you covered. At 15 minutes’ drive from Battipaglia in Campania, this small coastal site is in a quiet area, completely fenced and under 24-hour video surveillance. Access is strictly through a motorised gate with a numeric keypad for entry and exit. There’s a small bar and terrace opposite the pitches for relaxing after a day’s sightseeing, and in under 10 minutes’ walk, you’ll find a supermarket, butcher, bakery and a pharmacy. A local takeaway will also deliver pizzas to the site entrance. If you’re staying around a bit longer, you can leave all your worldly possessions behind knowing that they’ll be safe, and visit the ancient Greek remains at Paestum (25 minutes) by public transport. The bus service stops right outside the entrance to CamperStop Lagomare, and also goes to Salerno (half an hour) or medieval Eboli (25 minutes) for more sightseeing expeditions. Simple facilities on site include single-sex showers, water onboarding for campervans and caravans, and waste disposal.

Power optional motorhome site

Liked: The host was extremely helpful and kind. He was also patient and forgiving in our minimal ability to speak French. The location is safe, with clean bathrooms.

Disliked: This is a bare-bones location. We only chose it for a quick stopover.

Power optional motorhome site

Liked: Good motorhome service point. The site staff were attentive and tried to resolve issues which arose. Plenty of hot water for a shower. Toilets had soap and paper towels. Wifi worked on our pitch.

Disliked: Pitches were very narrow. The next pitch was just a few feet away from us. There was just a marker indicating each pitch so there was no privacy. The layout of the site was very regimented. This and the lack of trees gave the site a stark, austere appearance and atmosphere. There was very little shade. Although each pitch was concreted, grass had been allowed to grow up so each pitch was mainly dead grass and weeds. I tried to have a shower at 7.30pm. The ladies share with the accessible toilet, wash hand basin and shower cubicle all in one room. The light in the room would not come on. I was advised to wait until it got dark as there was a sensor. However, I pointed out that the light was working in the men's shower block and so I expected the light to come on in the ladies. After some commotion, a member of staff blocked the window with some cardboard to make the light come on. Success! However, when I returned a few minutes later, the light would not come on. So, as advised, I showered in the men's block which had a very spacious shower and drying area and plenty of hot water. The drain in the shower was blocked so I had to stand ankle deep in water, as did my husband when he showered. I mentioned this to a member of staff in the morning and he went to deal with it then. But why had it been allowed to happen in the first place? When I returned to the ladies/accessible toilet later in the evening, although the light came on, it went off after a few minutes. It fid not stay on for long enough. I had to wave my arms vigorously to get the light to come back on each time. So the accessible toilet is not user friendly and this is really not good enough. And then I thought....the men's shower block had a working light, two toilets, two wash hand basins and a spacious shower cubicle. The ladies, much smaller shower cubicle was in same room as the accessible toilet, shower and washing basin. Somehow this seems inequitable. We had to pay extra for electricity which was on a meter. The site was next to a very busy rather noisy road. We found a fairly nice beach close by, but it was not walkable from the site as the neighbourhood seemed rather run down with lots of litter around. The reception was staffed for limted hours during the day and evening. Although we were given the security code for the gate, not sure you can access electrical hookup if you arrive when the reception is unstaffed. The site was very expensive and very overpriced for what it was. The fact we were the only ones on the site tells its own story.

From the manager: Good morning. Response to the review does not correspond to reality, as: As regards the complaints of the guest lady, it is worth pointing out that: - The pitches and the pitch where they parked are 40 m2 and measure 5.00 x 8.00 m, as reported on the site and that the pitches are in sequence, as can be verified from the photos, as well as the trees, the paving of the pitches are made up of perforated concrete slabs from which the grass grows and in some places it can be dry and difficult to replace especially with the scorching heat we are having; - The service room has two bathrooms, one for men and another for women, the men's one is larger, but this was a design requirement, it could also have been the opposite and we did not want to implement any discrimination as to how the review suggests; -As regards the light in the women's bathroom, it is turned on via a brightness sensor which was slightly out of tune and therefore needed more darkness to turn on, given that it was still daytime at 7.30pm, but the staff did so to remedy the inconvenience, as far as turning it off is concerned, the same sensor turns the light off in the event of no movement and all you need to do is move to make it turn on, the lady probably remained still in the shower plus a few minutes also because she herself he admitted that there was a lot of hot water and that in any case the shower in the women's bathroom was much larger than that of the camper, as well as the reported obstruction of the drain which was not an obstruction but only because the shower provided a large quantity of water, with a little common sense you could make the shower work without a waterfall; -Electricity in the booking is an optional extra and €1.50 was paid equivalent to 3 kWh of consumption equal to €0.50 per kWh as declared; -The site is located, given its location, on a provincial road and therefore not a state road or motorway or expressway, there is traffic but not as heavy as reviewed and only during daytime hours; - The beach can be reached on foot from our area and is about 150 m away, the neighborhood defined as degraded is a newly built village; -The reception hours are those indicated on the site and there are telephone numbers everywhere to contact the staff who are available for any need night and day, living near the area which is equipped with video surveillance that covers it in full both inside and outside. -The price of the site is published everywhere and the guests paid what Pitchup put on the reservation; -The fact that they were the only ones present in the area is because for that day and that there were numerous cancellations and not because the area is not suitable as we subtly want to make people believe, given that only a few days before on Pichup we had a review of 10 out of 10 and the ones on other sites are excellent. The truth is that the guest lady who had just arrived in the area complained that the electricity column was not powering the camper and it was demonstrated to her that it was a problem with the camper and not with the column, perhaps this caused this review? We only point out that we need to be objective and not take it out on those who work and try to do their best to give the best possible service to their customers.

Liked: The hospitality of the very helpful owners. We had a leaking gas bottle and were out of gas. They managed to get our spare bottle refilled and all for €12. Also good recommendations for dining out. Pitches are flat and a good size, facilities were spotless. Hot showers. We were the only camper van here so had exclusive use.

Disliked: Road noise from the busy road running outside the camper stop.

Local attractions

Keen to make like James Bond? Drive the famed twists and turns of the Amalfi Coastline between Salerno (half an hour’s drive) and Sorrento (two hours and 20 minutes). Stop off at spectacularly pretty seaside towns like Ravello (an hour and 10 minutes), Amalfi (an hour and 20 minutes) and Positano (an hour and 40 minutes) for restorative cups of espresso before continuing on your winding way along the steep cliffside drive. Check out the classical columns of the mighty temples at Paestum (25 minutes), an ancient Greek colony overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. If that inspires you to learn more about Campania’s past, head for the Parco Archeologico di Pompei (50 minutes), where you can easily spend several days wandering the remains of the half-buried town destroyed by the volcano Vesuvius in 79 AD. If you’re looking for a change of pace after all that ancient Greek and Roman culture, hang out on the flume rides at Aquafarm (10 minutes’ walk), or treat the kids to a day of splash pads and water rides at Isola Verde Acqua Park (five minutes’ drive). You can also find several free beaches within 10 minutes’ walk along this section of the Gulf of Salerno, as well as lidos with beach bars and sun loungers.
