Outdoor space

  • Luxurious single yurt in a peaceful Abruzzo olive grove
  • Pescara and the Maiella National Park a half-hour drive away
  • Gorgeous mountain views from the private deck and hot tub
Now this is a real dose of luxury – there’s just the one gorgeous yurt at Abruzzo Glamping, so when you stay here you'll have the whole place to yourselves. And what a place it is, in a peaceful olive grove about 10 minutes’ drive from the village of Catignano and with splendid views of the local mountains. The outdoor space has been really well designed to make the most of all this – the yurt is set on a wooden platform that forms a spacious deck area with a barbecue, a table and comfy outdoor seating, all shaded by parasols. And just in front of that is your own private hot tub – a fabulous spot to soak for a little while, taking in the scenery with a glass of local wine in hand. The yurt's interior has been just as well designed – it’s fully furnished with everything from a comfy bed to a slipper bath to a kitchen corner with kettle, coffee maker and fridge. Bed linen and towels are provided, and you’ll have both air conditioning and a wood-burning stove to make sure you're just the right temperature in all seasons. The location here is pretty fantastic too – a half-hour drive takes you to either the mountains or the coast, and there are plenty of places around for walking, fishing, canoeing and skiing. You can also have a go at an archery activity on site if you’re staying for two or more nights.

Local attractions

At Glamping Abruzzo you’ll be staying at an organic olive grove – and olive groves often go hand in hand with wineries. That’s true of this area, where you'll be able to take walks or bike rides among local vineyards, and perhaps stop in for the odd tasting along the way. If you’ve got more ambitious hiking plans in mind, set off to explore the Maiella National Park (half an hour’s drive), a landscape made up of mountains, caves and waterfalls, with lots of wildlife to look out for. There are well-marked hiking and bike trails here, and local operators also offer canoe trips and other adventures. More water-based activities are at Hot-Lake wakeboarding park (20 minutes). Easier days out might include visits to historic sights like the Abbey di San Clemente a Casauria (half an hour), Museo dei Fossili e delle Ambre (half an hour) or Piccolomini Castle (an hour). You could also head to the coast for a day exploring Pescara (half an hour) – perhaps hitting a museum or two before a tasty meal or some time on the beach.
