- Family site in a green area on the edge of a nature reserve
- In business for over 30 years
- Two restaurants on site, both with lake views
A German site near a lake and with two restaurants on site, both with lakeside views – ja, it's worth giving Lower Saxony's Alfsee Ferien- und Erholungspark a look.
A family-orientated park that's been welcoming guests for over 30 years, Alfsee Ferien- und Erholungspark is in the greenery to the north of the city of Osnabrück, and set on the edge of a nature reserve. And that lake mentioned above? It's only 300 metres away.
There's a fair bit to do on site for all sizes before striding off explorer-like into the German countryside, like a climbing wall, mini golf course and bungee trampoline, or getting your own stuff started on the site sports court. Kids have both an indoor and outdoor playground at which to get tuckered out.
Once you're pitched up, time to wander over to the Alfsee Piazza or the Seeterrassen restaurants, to drink in the first of those lakeside views.

Local attractions
If you're feeling active, the area around Alfsee Ferien- und Erholungspark is perfect for traffic-free pedalling; ask at the site about renting a bike or e-bike nearby.
Also on wheels, try some karting, or race around by quad bike and a right motley crew of vehicles at Kinderautoland Alfsee. An outdoor play centre including maze and more quad bikes is at Erlebnissland Alfsee within driving distance, and kids can also bounce around the indoor play centre of Bullermeck-Alfsee or among the workshops and puppets of Kuddle Muddle Theater.
Elsewhere, Lower Saxony's popular tourist cities, villages and castles are all within accessible reach for day trips and many are close by, like tours of the Artlander Pilsener brewery or cheering on local basketball team the Artland Dragons (these latter two activities can be combined).
To have a look at the history of the area, visit the Museum und Park Kalkriese, home to an unusual depiction of the Battle of Teutoburg Forest, where German tribes showed the Romans what was what way back in 9AD. More into sticking to the landscapes? Take the 45-minute drive to Baumwipfelpfad Bad Iburg for woodland wanders both at ground level and up on an elevated walkway where you can trot through the treetops (and there are some pretty special views from the lookout tower, accessed by lift, too…)
Fishing trips, horse riding and carriage rides are also around, and it's worth doing a day in Osnabrück too, home of many comely old buildings and the world's first underground zoo.
