For stays of all sorts, settle down at this lushly leafy spot among the Lahn valley in Wetzlar. It's a good spot for cycling, canoeing and promenading along the banks of the Lahn river towards Wetzlar’s historic Old Town, a 15-minute walk from the site, and fishing is available on site with the appropriate paper German fishing license. Campingplatz Wetzlar is a family-friendly park with lots to do: there's plenty of room for rambles (and dog walks) around the grounds, and canoe and kayak tours and fishing are available to guests (you can book both at reception and there’s a boat slip station nearby). Several waymarked walking and cycling trails along the Lahn and elsewhere are also within easy reach. Foodwise, for quick and easy morning meals a daily breakfast and bread delivery service runs on site, and you can order packed lunches for dining on days out. Tea, coffee and cake are also available to take away. If you’re a fan of flaming your food on a firepit or barbecue, then you’re well sorted here: grills are available to borrow and you can buy firewood on site, plus several picnic tables dot the grassy areas too. And if ever you suffer a fateful food spill, fear not – the site also has a handy laundry and dry cleaning service. Amenities off site and nearby include a sports centre and a restaurant with a beer garden (both right next door), plus a supermarket and a car wash a few minutes’ walk away.

Disliked: I would not recommend staying here if you are English. From arriving it was clear that myself & my family was not welcome. The owner was very unhelpful when I was unable to hook up the electricity supply to my motorhome & I ended up having to move pitch much to his annoyance. My daughter took a shower at the onsite facility and used some talcum powder afterwards. Admittedly some of this was left on the floor by my daughter (she is 14). I was approached by the owner who was very angry that this had happened. I explained that I would speak to my daughter & ask her to make sure she didn’t do it again. Later that night (10:30pm) we was all settled in bed when the owner & three other men came banging on our motorhome door telling us WE ARE ENGLISH & HAVE TO LEAVE, WE ARE A PROBLEM. My daughter was so scared by the owner’s presence & tone. I asked him several times for a valid reason as to why he was making us leave with nowhere to go & his response was the same. Needless to say we left & had to park on the motorway service area overnight

From the manager: Gäste, die sich nicht an die Platzregeln des Campingplatzes halten sind nicht willkommen, völlig unabhängig von ihrer Nationalität. Es ist traurig, dass heutzutage jegliches Fehlverhalten toleriert werden muss, wenn man sich nicht direkt rassistischen Vorwürfen gegenüber sehen will. Wir weisen diesen implizierten Vorwurf vehement zurück, da das schon an Verleumdung grenzt. Wir haben mehrere Kabel und Adapter zur Verfügung gestellt, um die Stromversorgung eures Wohnmobils sicherzustellen. Der Platzwechsel erfolgte auf euren eigenen Wunsch. Sollte ich zu irgendeiner Zeit unfreundlich gewirkt haben, so ist dies lediglich auf schlechte Englisch Sprachkenntnisse zurückzuführen. Der komplette Badezimmerboden war mit Babypuder bedeckt. So etwas kann passieren, wir erwarten lediglich, dass man Bescheid gibt. Auch nachfolgende Gäste möchten gerne ein sauberes Bad vorfinden. Auch die Toilette sah grauenhaft aus, überall waren Toilettenpapier und Wattepads verteilt. Nachdem die Reinigungskraft die Duschräume gereinigt hatte, wurde zu später Stunde Verpackungsmüll sowie Plastiktüten mit englischer Beschriftung und Kassenzetteln in den Duschen einfach achtlos am Boden zurück gelassen, obwohl wir Mülleimer sogar in den Duschkabinen zur Verfügung stellen. Absolut inakzeptabel ist es, Zigaretten (Marke: Sterling Dual) auf dem Boden des Platzes und der Parzelle zurückzulassen sowie Grauwasser direkt auf dem Stellplatz zu entsorgen. Diese zahllosen Punkte haben uns dazu veranlasst euch einen Platzverweis auszusprechen. Dieser wurde durch mich allein ausgesprochen, es war lediglich ein weiterer Gast im Hintergrund dabei, der im Bedarfsfall als Dolmetscher hätte unterstützen können.

Liked: This is a nice little place. The toilets and showers were nicely cleaned and hot water. The restaurant next door was nice and the food was good and the beer. The site is only a 10 - 15 minutes walk to the town and about 20 minutes to the old town along the river. I would stay here again. Recommend.

Disliked: The only dislike we stayed here during the euros 24 and the site advertised showing the games at there beach bar. But it was never open during our stay. So a lot of people walked into town to watch games in local bars.

Local attractions

The park’s locale between Lahnstein and Dehrn along the banks of the Lahn river means there are lots of activity options on water, such as canoeing/kayaking and fishing. By land, plenty of cycle routes are close by for days of pedalling. While you’re here, it's of course highly recommended that you have a wander into the site’s local town of Wetzlar and explore its historic and well-preserved Old Town (Altstadt), dotted with historic plazas, a 13th-century cathedral, several museums and handsome half-timbered houses. Also worth a trip out to for stacks more sightseeing are little cathedral cities of Limburg an der Lahn and Weilburg, both within 40 minutes’ drive of Wetzlar.
