It's free, quick and easy!
- Among spectacular scenery a short stroll from Lac de Paladru
- Five minutes' drive from the town of Paladru and 35 to Grenoble
- Outdoor pool, play area and bar with terrace and ice cream sales
What an utter, blue, beaut. The family site of Camping Le Sans Souci in the Isère department is by the shores of lush Lac de Paladru, the fifth biggest lake in the land: this is such a pretty place...
Summer dips, watersports and a sandy beach are all at your leisurely disposal here, or you could opt instead to amble around on a lakeside wander or bike ride around the six-kilometre perimeter. Or just, sensibly, pack a picnic and find a scenic spot for a picnic, among this mighty handsome backdrop of blue lake, green hills and the treetops of the Alps – you might want to pack your paintbox too.
Sans Souci is but a couple of minutes' stroll from the lake, in a peaceful Rhône-Alps locale five minutes' drive from the town of Paladru, under 10 from Montferrat, 15 from the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park and 35 from Grenoble. Lyon's just over an hour away if you seek a (more) foodie time, and if you want to zip over the border and tick off two countries in one hol, Geneva is within an hour and a half: you may have heard there's a rather spectacular lake here as well...
Back on site, Camping Le Sans Souci has a spacious outdoor pool, a bar (and ice cream bar) with a scenic terrace, and a play area to occupy the kids while you investigate drinks and dairy.

Local attractions
Lac de Paladru is 200 metres away for fishing, summer swimming, sailing and waterskiing, as well as horse riding, cycling and hiking around its shores. If you're hiking, make for the one of the several viewpoints dotted along the lake's trails, for viewsome vistas over the water and the surrounding countryside.
Five beaches are to hand too if you'd rather take it a tad easier, and plenty of little villages are around the Paladru perimeter for markets and food sampling. If you'd care to delve into the history of it all, an archaeological museum on the lake is under 10 minutes' drive away at Charavines.
The Sans Souci team also recommends a day at Voiron (20 minutes), a handsome town that along with Grenoble and Chambéry is one of the three gateway settlements of the Chartreuse. The most popular part of town is the Chartreuse Cellars distillery, which has the longest liqueur cellar in the world. Guided tours are available in English from June to August, and in French throughout the year.
