It's free, quick and easy!
- Spacious and family friendly site with pool in Provence
- Bar and restaurant on site; bakery and shops a minute away
- Fishing and lake swimming five minutes away; 30 mins to Regional Park
It’s a prized patch of the Provençal good life, this one, a quiet village inside a quiet village.
Surroundd by shady trees, with gentle wooded slopes rising behind, Camping Le Moulin doesn’t hit the spot. It is the spot. On this spacious site in Rhône-Provence you can sit tight and do sweet nothing for your whole hols, or head out map and compass in hand as soon as your bags hit the floor. There’s lots to do, or not do, on site and further afield.
With a laundry, parent-baby washroom, playground and toddlers’ pool this place is set up for family stays. It’s got everyone covered actually, with a bar and restaurant rustling up wood-fired pizzas, and a swimming pool surrounded by mountain greenery.
In surrounding La Motte Chalancon you’ll find a bakery for your essential morning croissants (and the rest), a couple of bars and eateries and a supermarket. The Drôme river flows right by, making it an easy choice for river walks and river bank picnics.
If you’re itching to go further, head first to Plan d’Eau du Pas Des Ondes (five minutes’ drive). It’s astonishing to think this is man-made; a pair of lakes surrounded by greenery, where you can swim and fish. Can people improve on nature? Only, perhaps, in Provence.

Local attractions
For active antics in the wilderness, it’s half an hour’s drive to the hilly wonders of the Baronnies-Provençale Regional Park, laced with trails and bursting with boat-based thrills for kayakers and canoeists.
The towns and villages of the region are just as ripe for exploring (and shopping). Head to Nyons (40 minutes) for produce fresh from the farms, especially the olive oil and Clairette de Die, a pleasant and fragrant sparkling white you won’t taste anywhere else. Pick up fine handmade pottery in Séguret (one hour) and the excellent local rosés everywhere you see a 'Caves' sign. Suze la Rousse (one hour) even has a university dedicated to plonk and it ought to be on your list of must-see places even if you prefer a cup of tea. A hilltop promontory town gazing down onto a valley of vines and lavender, this is peak Provence.
If you should hear any moaning from the back along the lines of 'oh no, not another lavender field' then send the family to the crocodiles. La Ferme Aux Crocs (1.5 hours) is an unmissable opportunity to see various breeds of the toothy terrors on a park with giant tortoises, lizards, tropical birds and fish.
