It's free, quick and easy!
- Wooded site 20 minutes' walk from the centre of Vallon Pont d'Arc
- A 10-minute walk from the Ardèche river for swimming and canoe trips
- Pool, sun terrace, trampoline and playground
Of all the views in all the land, can there be few finer than those over the Gorges de l’Ardèche...? Bag yourself a spot at lovely little Camping Le Vieux Vallon to be within easy reach of some of the best vantage points for gorging on gorgeous scenery.
A leisurely 20-minute amble from the centre of Vallon Pont d’Arc, this is a peaceful rural place with its own scenic outlook over the craggy cliffs. It’s also a 10-minute stroll from the banks of the Ardèche river for cooling dips or joining the canoe tours this part of the world is (quite rightly) famed for. If you fancy paddling down the river, have a chat with the friendly folk at reception, as they’ve often got insider info and access to mates’ rates.
You needn’t roam that far for your swims though, as there’s a pool on site, with a sun terrace with loungers alongside for post-swim basks. A playground with table tennis, table football and a trampoline is also near the pool.
Ice creams and hot or cold drinks are on sale at reception when you need a little refreshment, and a bread delivery service is to hand for fresh morning munchables. Evening meals can be had at one of the restaurants in town, or freshly grilled on the communal barbie (using ingredients foraged from the market if you’re in town on a Thursday).

Local attractions
Canoe trips (taking in the mighty Pont d’Arc stone arch and heading onwards to the Gorges de l’Ardèche) are mighty popular around these parts, and there’s also hiking, canyoning, mountain biking, ziplining and light aircraft flights to see things from another angle.
It’s also really (really) worth heading up to the Pont d’Arc cave (drive it in 15 minutes or stride forth for an hour’s hike) to see an excellent reconstruction of the UNESCO-listed Chauvet cave. Or get underground for real at the ancient Aven d’Orgnac caves, 20 minutes’ drive from the site.
The area’s medieval villages are lovely places for a potter too – head to Labeaume, Ruoms or Balazuc for markets, cafés and leisurely meandering.
