Pack up for peaceful Provençal days at Camping Les Fouguières, a family-friendly site with that winning combo of relaxed woodland vibe and easy access to townie amenities.
Trotting into the centre of Carcès from here should take around 10 minutes or so, and the little town is well supplied with restaurants, supermarkets and places to pick up local wines. If you don’t fancy the walk, the snack bar can sort you out with quick meals as well as drinks and ice creams; it’s also the place to put in an order for fresh bread and/or pastries to be delivered for breakfast.
Loaf about on site for a little while for games of volleyball, badminton, table tennis or pétanque, or chilled-out days around the open-air swimming pool. During high season site staff organise relaxed sports tournaments for all ages, and there’s a weekly chance to get together with fellow guests at Wednesday night’s themed dinner or entertainment.
This is a splendid spot to settle in for leisurely days spent hiking, canoeing or horse riding through the countryside, sampling the offerings at the local vineyards or poking around traditional villages and châteaux. A little further afield, it'll take you an hour or so to hit the beaches of the Mediterranean coast.

Local attractions
If you’d like to see the source of your local vino, what finer way to spend the day than pottering around the wineries on your bike – there are several just a few kilometres out of town so no need for epic pedalling marathons.
Exploring the surrounds on horseback is another excellent choice – the stables a few minutes’ drive away can sort you with all manner of days out including kids’ pony rides and half-day outings for a lakeside picnic. For a different view, take to the water on a canoe or kayak trip on the Argens river, 10 minutes away by car, or swing on the treetop rope course half an hour away at Aoubre L'aventure Nature adventure park.
Should you be up for a château visit, wander round Carcès’ own little historic building or head to the grander medieval castle in Entrecasteaux, 10 minutes away in the car. Should the kids be wrinkling their noses at such activities, perhaps consider staying in the car for an hour to get to the beaches of Saint-Tropez or Aqualand waterpark in Fréjus.
