Set in a viewsome valley right in the middle of the Alpilles regional park, Domaine Méjan is near the handsome Provençal villages of Le Paradou and Maussane and has everything one might require for a posh Provençal stay: think modern, well maintained and très merveilleux, with a sprinkling of massage, champagne and gourmet fodder.
The site’s sleek lodges are constructed using eco-friendly timber frames and wood cladding to ensure they blend in seamlessly with their lush environs, and even from the inside you’ll feel almost like you’re out, as each has been built to provide wide-angle views of the Alpilles. Should you really wish to splash out, all sorts of swish services are available to add on, like gourmet breakfast trays filled with local delicacies and bubbly, as well as other in-lodge catering options to be sampled on your private decked terrace.

For outdoorsy days, set off on intrepid explores of the Alpilles on foot, via a network of hiking trails that cross scenically over cypress-hedged olive groves, vineyards, marshes, pine forests and Mediterranean scrubland.
If you’re partial to a pedal, hire kids’ and adults’ mountain bikes on site to cycle further out to historic local hotspots like the medieval Château des Baux, Glanum archaeological site and the Daudet mill, or to natural landmarks like disused quarries, an artificial lake and a network of Roman waterways.
Hot air balloon rides are available locally too, to see you drift colourfully skywards over the lush lands below, or you can hire a vintage car for the day for zooms around the local country roads. If you’re of a golfing persuasion, zip along to the 18-hole golf course a short drive or bike ride away from the site.
