Picture the scene: a Provençal village with medieval streets, café terraces and babbling fountains. Oh, and how about staying near not one, but three natural parks as well? Guests at Camping La Ribière can drive down into the centre of the historic village of Annot in five breezy minutes, and this splendid site also makes a fab base for exploring the Verdon Regional Natural Park, Préalpes d'Azur Regional Natural Park and Mercantour National Park. This small-scale site is located in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur on the banks of the Vaïre river. Guests can make the most of their riverside location by heading down to the sun terrace on the edge of the site for hours sunbathing, paddling and swimming. There's also a play area where kids can let off steam, and a good stack of handy facilities including free wifi and a laundry area. On-site meals can sorted at the restaurant and takeaway, both of which serve a menu of tasty local fare. Folk who fancy preparing a riverside picnic can pick up suitable bits at the supermarket 350 metres from the site entrance. There are also plenty of options down in Annot, where various shops, restaurants and bars cater to a range of tastes. The staff here are a friendly bunch: whether you have questions about markets, local festivals or walking routes, they'll be happy to offer advice on how to spend your days in the surrounding area.

Local attractions

Fancy heading out on two wheels? Head to the Verdon Regional Natural Park and hire a mountain bike in Saint-André-les-Alpes (30 minutes): opt for an electric model if you suspect you might need a little extra help for pedalling uphill. Alternatively, splash around at Lac de Castillon, where activities include rafting, watersports and parascending (25 minutes). Up for cantering around on horseback? Equine outings can be sorted at the nearby Vérimande Equestrian Centre (five minutes). Those who'd prefer a gentle stroll may like to head to Entrevaux, a walled town with medieval gateways and 18th-century mill (15 minutes), or the equally pretty village of Castellane (40 minutes). Local nature hubs worth exploring include the rock formations at Les Grès d’Annot (10 minutes) and the scenic hikes and donkey treks around the Gorges de Daluis (25 minutes). The latter is located on the edge of the Mercantour National Park so you can expect spectacular Alpine landscapes thrown into the mix too. For traditional Provençal vistas, try the Préalpes d'Azur Regional Natural Park. A local light railway line (Le Train des Pignes) skirts the edge of this splendid spot: trains regularly stop at Annot station (five minutes).

Liked: What a beautifully situated campsite. Gorgeous area and lovely small villages around. Right next to the river. We were camping outside season, but it was still very clean and neat. Nadia is very friendly and helpfull at reception, and speaks English, not just French.

Disliked: The bathroom is unisex to share, men and women. That I did not like at all.

Liked: Lovely campsite, toilets and all facilities in great condition including a laundry (round the back of the building, I only found it near the end of my stay). Very friendly hosts too.

Liked: The site is as good as it gets. Best we’ve been to in a long time. Clean, tidy, has all the facilities required, soap, paper, seats. Spotless. Great showers.
Pitch is spacious, we chose to overlook the river as we like water. Really nice spot. Walked into the supermarket, 5 minutes, into town 15 minutes. A few nice cafes and at least one restaurant that was open (out of season really) as well as the one on site. Train station 20 minutes walk, €12 into Nice, lovely day out. Town has some lovely medieval parts and a lot of history. Masses of walks and climbing if that’s what a person wants.

Disliked: Minor picky point. The disabled toilet needs to be always accessible regardless of wheelchair users on site or not. There are a lot of disabilities that are not visible to other people.

That's why we closed them, to keep them clean for people who need to use them. You should have told us about this at reception so that you could have free access. Great location for walking, travelling to Nice by train, paddling in an alpine river.
Nice pitch next to river.
Facilities always clean and well maintained.
Quiet.

Disliked: Not many restaurants available at end of season (not sites fault).

Liked: Lovely, clean facilities with toilet paper available outside the toilets which is always a bonus! Next to a beautiful, shallow river to dip your feet in on a hot day. The town is a 10-15 minute walk from the site and a supermarket is 5 minutes in the opposite direction. We decided to stay for 2 nights.
