You can get to both La Rochelle and Nantes within about an hour and a half from Camping du Bois Vert. But spectacular though both those spots be, there's so much stuff to do at and around this Poitou-Charentes and Parthenay place that you might find yourself staying put.
For a start, the old fortified town of Parthenay is a few kilometres from here for potters around its medieval centre and walls, and it's a short drive from the site to the Thouet river, a place so peaceful that its Gallic name translates as tranquil. Family days out are in excellent supply too, with Parc Mouton Village and Parc Aventure 79 both within half an hour.
Camping du Bois Vert is a laidback and friendly site in the Deux-Sèvres department, in a scenic setting with grass pitches. There are leisure options aplenty for days on site, including fishing in the pond, sunbathing by or plunging into the pool, or ambling indoors to the games room for board games and gentle (or not) competition. Ping pong tables, volleyball, badminton and pétanque courts are also available.

Local attractions
La Rochelle and its aquarium, one of the biggest in Europe (an hour and 25 minutes' drive), Fort Boyard (an hour and 40 minutes), Royan (an hour and 45 minutes) and Zoo La Palmyre (an hour and 50 minutes) are all recommended day trips from the site.
You could also take a boat trip around the marshes, canals, rivers of the spectacular Marais-Poitevin (50 minutes), go fishing, investigate the woodland on foot or by bike, or take a donkey ride. Many handsome villages are here to explore too, such as Arçais, the only village in the Marais Mouillé or wet marsh part of the Marais-Poitevin.
As well as Parc Mouton Village (25 minutes) and Parc Aventure 79 (30 minutes), have family days out at Parc de la Vallée or the famed park of Futuroscope, both 50 minutes from the site. Biopark Doue la Fontaine is just over an hour away.

Liked: Nice private green pitches, very friendly manager and lovely pizza on Monday night.
Disliked: No toilet seats for some reason
