- Family-friendly site a short walk from the ancient town of Bressuire
- Easy access to Loire châteaux and vineyards; an hour from La Rochelle
- Pool, play area and modern amenities
Ever been to Bressuire? This comely little Poitou-Charentes town is properly ancient, inhabited since Celtic times and overseen by the ruins of its 11th-century château, occupied in the town for centuries.
And if you're quite into French châteaux and delving into French heritage? A short walk from Bressuire lies family-friendly Camping Puy Rond, a handy base for dreamy potters around the châteaux of the Loire Valley – and just under an hour from the splendid old harbour and city walls of tiptop La Rochelle. (If you're into history of the slightly more bonkers type, the site's also a nifty place for visits to the historical theme park Puy du Fou.)
Puy Rond is within easy driving distance too of other top French tourism spots like Futuroscope theme park, the marshland and canals of the Marais Poitevin and the seaside town of Les Sables-d'Olonne. Fishing, cycling and mountain biking, golf and horse riding are all available nearby.
Camping Puy Rond has a pool, a play area and free wifi, alongside comfy and modern amenities of including shower and toilet blocks suitable for guests with disabilities, a launderette (small charge applied) and a washing-up area.
Shops, restaurants, cafés and bars are a short stroll away at Bressuire.

Local attractions
A drive of about 45 minutes from Camping Puy Rond will land you at the Marais-Poitevin, the vast green marshy wetland crisscrossed by canals and rivers and designated as a Regional Natural Park.
The Marais-Poitevin is the biggest marsh on the Atlantic coast and the second biggest in all of France (after the Camargue), so plenty of options are around for trips on its water on a guided boat tour, or taking a punt yourself by hiring a boat from one of the several canalside piers. Fishing and cycling are also popular marshy picks.
Loire castle land is also reachable in about 45 minutes: have a look at Château de Brézé, an 11th-century small castle with 30 hectares of vineyards (clanking souvenirs required, please) and the Château de Saumur nearby, a famed castle dating back to the tenth century and now with gardens, exhibits, the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Museum of the Horse.
Also recommended by the Puy Rond team are ambles around Loire Valley villages such as Arcais; canoe trips on the Loire; the ruins of Benedictine Maillezais Abbey; the museums of Angers, the Japanese gardens of Maulevrier, and the vineyards of Anjou and Muscadet, to pick up topping wine as well as suitably smelly cheese.
