  • Green site within easy reach of the coast
  • Half an hour's drive from Boulogne-sur-Mer and Saint-Omer
  • Seasonal facilities include an indoor pool and terrace restaurant
Stopoffs at Calais on your way to and from Boulogne, Saint-Omer and other parts of France are a cinch at this lush and serene site – as are longer stays too, for Camping Caravanning Pommiers des Trois Pays has several cycling routes and footpaths right by its entrance for walking and cycling tours of the national parkland around. During high season only, the site has a heated indoor pool with retractable roof. Around the site, other facilities include a pétanque court and just for tiddlers, a playground. A bouncy castle and games room are also available during high season only. While the small peeps are off being highly amused elsewhere, grownups can make the most of their free time with wanders around the site, after which they can head to the bar to settle back, tipple in hand, as they carefreely survey the pooltime antics from the shaded terrace. A restaurant (open during high season only) is next to the bar, offering a takeaway service in case you can’t be faffed to cook. If you can, pick up supplies locally and grill yourself something highly tasty at your pitch, because barbecues are actively encouraged around here.

Power optional grass site

Liked: Swimming pool, play ground and inflatable Supermarket nearby and reception was friendly with providing cycle routes

Disliked: I arrived travelling from the Netherlands with fever and am a single mum of 2. So unfortunately when we arrived my son who has adhd and mild autism had an incident with the restaurant manager and I was not there when it happend. My son was grabbed by the arm by the restaurant manager as he thought he was throwing stones at the swimming pool dome. When in fact it was another boy and my son was collecting stones as he is obsessed with them. My son does not like being touched and is very sensitive to this. But No Child should be touched by an strange adult. This made me feel unsettled as I was struggling just to look after the children and told them not to go to the play ground till I felt better when normally my kids always go to the play ground by themselves as he is 11. Besides this incident we had a good stay. Camping layout is a bit chaotic and struggled with my 8ft wide caravan when it was busy due to the cars parked near the bent.

Power optional grass site

Liked: Nice spacious pitches, great facilities, friendly staff

Disliked: The pool, which is the reason we booked it. Was complete chaos. It needs to be supervised. Also the site just needs a bit of a tidy, grass needs cutting, there was rubbish on the floor too. It has potential to be a really good site. Maybe we were just unlucky

Power optional grass site

Liked: Very clean and tidy pitches. The site wasn’t too big which I liked as we had small children. The facilities were always clean and available. The restaurant was lovely and reasonably priced. The guys running the place spoke very good English and were always happy to help.

Disliked: The WiFi wasn't the best at times

Power optional grass site

Liked: Pool

Disliked: The showers and toilet blocks were not clean. Also the bar and restaurant is only open from 4pm reservation only and they get the pizza’s from a vending machine down the road. It’s a shame as there are no close by shops so wanting to get a cold drink or ice cream for children is a no go. Very much a let down unfortunately, sorry to say we wouldn’t stay again.

Local attractions

The site entrance is crossed by cycling and walking trails that take you into the surrounding locale, and almost 300 kilometres of waymarked trails are around the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park. The hilly surrounds are tiptop territory for bike rides: hire wheels on site to get pedalling. Several other activities are in the area: trails through the Guînes forest, treetop exploring at Opalaventure (40 minutes away) and quad biking in Rety (20 minutes). Keen anglers in possession of the correct licence can head over to Licques to cast their line for fine fishy specimens, or instead go trout fishing around the ponds near Courtebourne (a kilometre away). Several historic hotspots and attractions are within a short and simple drive of the site, like the reconstructed bygone village of Saint Joseph with its clock tower; the Rando-Rail from Nielles-lès-Bléquin for highly scenic hand-powered tours along a disused railway line; and Dennlys Parc for 30 squeal-inducing family attractions, shows and water rides. The Nausicaä aquarium in Boulogne-sur-Mer is where you can whisk wee ones off to goggle at sharks, sea lions and heaps of other sea-dwelling critters.
