- Anglo-French family-run site in the Haut-Languedoc nature park
- A 10-minute walk from Mazamet and 15 minutes' drive to Lac de Montagne
- Lots of space, spectacular scenery, library and play area
Such green green land surrounds the site of Camping de la Lauze in the lush Tarn department of the Midi-Pyrénées: if you seek a French setting for scenic hiking and mountain biking, climbing and canyoning, it's all close to hand from here.
Camping de la Lauze is at the foot of the Montagne Noire mountain range in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park, a 10-minute walk from the restaurants, bars, shops and two weekly markets of Mazamet. If you seek gentler pursuits than hurtling down or clambering up mountains, a handsome Voie Verte cycling trail starts from behind the site, while the swimming waters and sandy beach of Lac de Montagnes are 15 minutes away.
This is a peaceful and prettily laid out place, with plenty of space, tall trees for shade, paved paths and spectacular scenery all around. An aquatic centre and a wellness care with pool, hammam and sauna are within a few minutes' walk of the site; access to the pool is free in high season for Camping de la Lauze guests.
On-site facilities include a play area and a pétanque court for outdoor days, as well as a library and a well-equipped games and TV room indoors. A small shop serves drinks and ice cream.

Local attractions
Camping de la Lauze's location at the foot of the Montagne Noire or Black Mountains has it well set for outdoor activities: try mountain biking, hiking, canyoning and climbing, or ask for maps on site to access the many local hiking trails.
By bike and on a less hair-raising route than whizzing down the mountains, pedal along some of the Voie Verte or greenway starting behind the site, on a spectacular 80-kilometre traffic-free run from Mazamet to Bédarieu. Depending on how far you can pedal, you'll pass Languedoc-Roussillon sights such as the caves of Devèze, the Héric and Colombières gorges, the Château de Soult-Berg, and pretty villages such as Olargues. Rent bikes (as well as mountain bikes and scooters) at the tourist office in Mazamet.
Watersports are easily accessed 15 minutes away at Lac de Montagnes, a clear, peaceful and deep blue body of water at an altitude of 680 metres. The lake also has a sandy beach, miniature golf and play areas, a kids' pool and several spots for fishing. Around the lake, tackle the shoreside trail and one or more of the five mountain bike paths, or access the botanical trail, GR 7 and walking paths.
For town and city day trips, Castres is 15 minutes' drive away, and Carcassonne, Albi, Toulouse and Béziers are all within an hour to an hour and a half by car.
