- Village of cabins covering several acres of Lot countryside
- A 15-minute drive from Gourdon; Cahors half an hour
- Outdoor pool, restaurant and wellness area with sauna and hot tub
For a cosy place to stay on the edge of the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park, take a look at the cabins at La Colline aux Chalets. This hilltop site a couple of kilometres from Saint-Chamarand is central in the Lot department and surrounded by several acres of Périgord countryside.
You may assume that being surrounded by a woodland full of oaks, pines, cypresses and cedars would make this a relaxing enough place to stay – and you’d be correct, but there’s more to this place than just that setting. And that’s because one of the highlights of this site is its wellness area, with a sauna and jacuzzi to help ease you into properly chilled-out holiday mode. There’s an outdoor pool too, along with a relaxation room supplied with games and books, so you can put your feet up whatever the weather.
All the accommodation units here have excellent views over greenery and are accessible from a path that wiggles its way down the hillside. Facilities inside include a well-equipped kitchen, a well-maintained bathroom and a covered terrace with outdoor furniture. Guests are welcome to explore the large meadow area and say hello to the permanent horse, goat, llama, sheep and pig residents.
Cooking for yourselves should be straightforward at La Colline aux Chalets (there are plenty of supermarkets and village markets within 15 minutes' drive), but if that doesn’t fit with your relaxing holiday plans you can always explore the varied menu at the site's restaurant instead. Drinks and lighter snacks are also available.

Local attractions
Start your tour by ticking off some of the pretty towns and villages around the area. It’s a 15-minute drive to the medieval streets of Gourdon, or 35 minutes to Rocamadour, clinging to a cliffside overlooking the Alzou canyon. Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (40 minutes) should be on the itinerary too: it’s got 13 historic monuments to see, and is on the list of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France.
A trip to Cahors (half an hour’s drive) is also recommended, to see the famous Pont Valentré bridge, visit the market and seek out the city's secret gardens.
The urban areas aren’t the only places to find a bit of history – you may also like to take trips to the likes of Château des Anglais (40 minutes) or Château de Bonaguil (an hour). Even older than these are the prehistoric paintings on display at Pech Merle caves (half an hour) and the ancient rock formations of the Padirac Cave (35 minutes).
If you’re getting the kids interested in the natural world, plan outings to the bees at La Maison des Abeilles and the monkeys at La Forêt des Singes (both 35 minutes).
