- Rural Aveyron site in woodland on the Laussac peninsula
- Direct access to Lac de Sarrans for swimming, fishing and watersports
- Swimming pool, tennis, restaurant and weekly astronomy evening
Love a lake view? Pick yourselves a pitch at Camping La Source, in a wooded area on the Laussac peninsula, with gorgeous views over the surrounding forests and Lac de Sarrans, a 20-mile-long artificial lake in the Aveyron region.
There’s more to the lake than just a pretty backdrop though – there’s direct access from the site to these calm waters for swimming and fishing, and guests can also moor boats for free or hire canoes, pedaloes and motorboats. Two footpaths lead up into the hills from the site to give great views over the lake, and there are several discovery trails in the local area, along which residents have designed themed walks with sculptures and other features.
Trying out all these things should give you plenty to do, but don’t forget that you’ll need to leave a bit of time for the site’s leisure facilities too – these include an outdoor pool area with paddling pool and waterslide, a miniature golf course, a tennis court, a pétanque court, a playground, a games room and a multisports pitch.
A kids' club runs during the mornings in the summer months, and there's also a busy programme of entertainment for all the family, with activities such as sports tournaments, quizzes and board games nights. Once a week there's a chance to make the most of the area's dark skies with an astronomy evening.
The nearest town is Thérondels (10 minutes’ drive), but you won’t have to go that far for food, as there’s a mini market on site (with fresh bread and pastries) along with a restaurant/pizzeria, which has a large terrace with lake views.

Local attractions
The area directly around the site has lots of lovely walking trails, but if you’d like to explore a little further afield you may like to head into one of the nearby regional natural parks – both Aubrac and Auvergne Volcanoes are a short drive away. Alternatively, perhaps you’d like to have a go at the treetop trails at Aloa Nature Accrobranche (15 minutes’ drive) or head out on a horse riding tour (20 minutes).
There are some great historic sights dotted around nearby as well, including the lovely medieval town of Mur-de-Barrez (20 minutes), packed with well-preserved Auvergne architecture. Estaing (an hour) is another lovely choice, with a castle and Gothic bridge and surrounded by vineyards, and you should also stop by at Château de Valon (half an hour), up on a hilltop with sweeping views over the surroundings.
A couple of other places to visit nearby are the thermal baths in Chaudes-Aigues (45 minutes) and the impressive Gabarit Viaduct (an hour), built by Gustave Eiffel to experiment for the Eiffel Tower.
