- Friendly and flower-filled site with pool in the Creuse valley
- A 15-minute drive from the Valley of the Painters
- A minute's walk from shops and bakery; forest trails start from site
On the edge of a forest, with a vista of hills... and a short drive from the spectacular scenery where the two forks of the Creuse river join with the Sédelle under a ruined clifftop fort.... you might want to bring along your paintbox when you stay at Camping Dun-le-Palestel, just to the south of the centre of France.
This Limousin and Creuse department site is among stunning scenes of the Creuse valley and within easy reach of the Valley of the Painters. Elsewhere in the area, it's about 25 minutes' drive from here to Guéret and its woodland, the same distance to the lush little medieval town of La Souterraine, and about an hour to Limousin for city sightseeing.
Vodatent at Camping Dun-le-Palestel is home to roomy and fully- kitted safari tents, all with a comfy pair of bedrooms. Each tent also comes with outdoor decking for those warm summer nights and an indoor dining area when you want to cool down. Cleverly, the kitchen unit here is fully mobile to make mealtimes a cinch: feed the crew in or out.
There's a pool on site too, a popular spot on this peaceful site and surrounded by wild grasses and fragrant blooms. For less peaceful members of your party, there’s a trampoline and playground... or you could head out for a wander on the forest trails starting right from the site.
Even getting the daily bread is simple here: the site is in central Dun-le-Palestel, with a bakery and supermarket.

Local attractions
The tourist office in the village is a mine of information on the Valley of the Painters and the various changing exhibitions where you can see the artists' work: make this your first stop if you're in any way artistically inclined.
There's no substitute of course for seeing what made the likes of Monet, Detroy and Guillaumin pitch their easels here: as rich as it ever was, the view of the river confluence topped by thick forests and the white ruin at Crozant (15 minutes' drive) is a must-see. A must-paint too, so bring your brushes...
This is a popular area to visit, but you won't get stuck in a tourist trap: the surrounding valley is full of walking trails where you can lose yourself in nature, or you could take a kayak trip or a boat cruise on the Creuse. Riding centres are in Dun if you want to see it all from the saddle.
Once connected with your wild side, go and meet the wolves at Les Loups de Chabrières (40 minutes), an encounter so stuffed with wolf-based facts and furry charm that you’ll want to take the pack home with you...
