It's free, quick and easy!
- Eco-responsible site on the banks of the Chapeauroux river
- Central starting point for hiking and walking trails through the area
- Top spot for fishing and watersports, 15 minutes from Naussac Lake
You’ve probably heard of ecotourism, but what about eco-responsible tourism? Camping du Pont de Braye, three kilometres from the village of Chastanier in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, is a member of Via Natura, working to conserve environmental and natural heritage in France.
It's also the starting point for walks through the area, and the team will help you choose a trail that suits; while you’re rambling, keep one eye on your guidebook and another on your surroundings to see if you can spot some of the native birds, dragonflies and butterflies that bring the area to life. If you’d prefer to do your exploring on two wheels, bikes can be rented on site.
When you’ve worked up a sweat on the trails, take a dip in the Chapeauroux river – which flows past the site – to cool off, then make up for those lost calories with a meal at the restaurant an easy two-minute walk from the site.
If dining out isn’t your thing, get something from the on-site takeaway or fend for yourself on one of the on-site barbecues. The small on-site grocery shop will keep you in essentials during your stay – for everything else, take a trip to the nearby town of Langogne, a 15-minute drive away.

Local attractions
Camping du Pont de Braye is a haven for anyone who wants to spend their time on the water: set up rod and reel on the banks of the Chapeauroux and see if you can land a trout, chub, minnow or grouper, or try your luck at Naussac lake, a 15-minute drive from the site. Take to the Naussac waters for windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and kiteboarding, or chase something a little more high octane with rafting or canoe trekking.
If you prefer to keep your feet dry, pay a visit to the village of Chastanier, three kilometres from the site, to get a feel for the history of the region with a trip to a listed historic monument – the 12th-century church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur – and its Musée d’Art sacré.
Entertain the kids with a trip to La Vallon du Villaret, a 40-minute drive from Pont de Braye, where games, art and nature are brought together in a theme park that’s well worth exploring.
Looking for something different? See Languedoc-Roussillon from a unique perspective on the Vélorail de Pradelles: rent a vélorail and pedal it along disused rail tracks spanning viaducts, burrowing through tunnels and crossing the countryside. Just be sure to bring snacks – the downhill journey may be fun, but it’s the upward journey that’ll get you…
