Source a family-friendly Gard break with national park horse riding, hiking and canoeing at Camping Les Sources, 10 kilometres from Anduze in the Cévennes National Park. Archery, sports tournaments, pottery classes and themed meals and discos all run on site in summer; around the area, active and sightseeing sorts can tackle some of the outdoor activities of the national park on land and on water, or drive to other Gard highlights like caves, adventure parks, gardens and the traditional steam train running through the countryside to Anduze from the site's nearby town of Saint-Jean-du-Gard. Les Sources is a family-friendly site, set among spectacular scenery and well-maintained colourful landscapes. Among the facilities are a heated pool, a paddling pool with water games, a playground, a pétanque court and a games room, along with a restaurant and a mini market selling fresh bread and pastries. The three amenity blocks are all heated in low season.

Local attractions

Several topping options are very close to Camping Les Sources: the outdoor pursuits of the Cévennes National Park, or a day exploring Saint-Jean-du-Gard and catching the Cévennes Steam Train to Anduze, stopping off at the Bambouseraie de Prafrance botanical and bamboo gardens. Access the Robert Louis Stevenson Trail or GR 70 directly from the site to see how far you can get on its 272 or so kilometres among tiny old towns, river gorges, lakes and mountains, following the trail used by the writer for his book Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes (accompanying beasts of burden not essential). A horse riding centre and canoeing and kayaking on the Gardon river are within a kilometre; a tree climbing park within five, and the subterranean setting of the Grotte de Trabuc and its 100,000 'soldiers' within six. The Pont du Gard, one of the best-preserved Roman aqueducts in the world, is about 40 kilometres away.
