Two rivers for the price of one. Normandy's Saâne and Vienne rivers encircle the peaceful site of Camping de la Vallée as they wind their way seawards: think salty breezes, big skies and a landscape where country and coast merge… Gentler pursuits on site include pétanque and table football, as well as a play area for smaller guests and a games room for older ones to lurk in. Or you could send the offspring off to go and catch dinner: there are half a dozen ponds around the site, a draw for wildlife and for anglers after sturgeon and perch. You can order takeaway to be delivered from a local pizzeria (no delivery charge) or buy groceries to make meals to eat at the many lakeside picnic tables (burn it off later on the basketball courts or in the fitness area). On the practical side, your stay is made easier by an on-site laundry and a washroom with baths and showers. You can bring your dog and that 'Boss of the Barbecue' apron you got for Christmas, as both are welcome (barbecues, more than novelty aprons…).

Lovely, peaceful lakeside spot, perfect for fishing and biking. Pitches are decent sizes, often waterside. Owners are friendly and helpful, though facilities are basic (some showers need a spruce-up). Expect occasional noise, and you'll need tokens for showers. Most folk love it and want to come back.

Liked Beautiful site with fantastic view onto the lake. Can certainly recommend if u want to get away for peace and quiet..

Disliked Facilities are slightly dated.. in need of upgrading however very clean.

Liked Friendly welcome. Beautiful lakeside setting. Great for fishing (we don't fish). We saw a neighbour catch a huge fish! Good size pitch with all facilities working.
Excellent cycle routes nearby.

Disliked Facilities working but basic and not very clean. The site is mostly residential with tourers almost an afterthought. We were very distracted by a neglected dog on the next pitch which was left tied up outside for more than 24 hours unattended and kept whining for our attention. We reported this to staff who said people on this pitch worked late and left dog behind. We thought this animal neglect unacceptable and it really spoilt our stay.

Liked What a wonderful find. Stunningly beautiful and peaceful. Not to mention convenient to Dieppe.

Top tip: order your bread and croissants etc the night before for fresh ones to collect at reception the next day. Such a treat!

Local attractions

The beach at Quiberville-sur-Mer is your nearest (10 minutes by car) for dipping, lounging and digging big holes. The larger town of Veules-les-Roses (15 minutes) has beetling cliffs and a pebble shore that once drew painters by the cartload. Veules-les-Roses is also a good place to try your hand at windsurfing and sea-kayaking. Fécamp (50 minutes) is the starting point for the Route du Lin (Linen Route) cycle path, taking in history and some of Normandy's finest scenery over an 80-kilometre route, and is also home to Woody Park and its tree climbing and bungee jumping. Hautot-sur-Mer (10 minutes) is one of many local centres for equestrian activities, including guided horseback trails. For a busy port, Dieppe (20 minutes) is remarkably easy on the eye; Saturday markets will thrill/horrify some visitors with buckets of live snails and recognisable bits of boar. On the cliffs above in the Château Musée you can see how Renoir, Pissarro and Sickert painted the town red (and other colours).
