When you’re looking for a Southern Brittany escape with the kids, you’ll need somewhere with plenty of facilities and lots going on. That’s certainly the case at Camping Ker Yaoulet in Ambon on the Morbihan coast. As well as being 10 minutes’ walk from Trehervé beach, this lively place has got you covered with lots of on-site sporting activities, catering and a shop… all bases covered for everybody.
Firmly family-friendly, the site also has a verdant setting under trees and well-maintained, landscaped pitches. Daily life centres on the waterpark, complete with slides, paddling pools and both indoor or outdoor pools, but there’s also a playground and sports courts for ball games. Exercise classes (both in and out of the pool) keep you on your toes, and there’s organised entertainment for the kids during school holidays too.
Of course, you can also simply flop in the sun around the pool, or potter down to the beach for a cooling dip in the sea. If all you want to do is relax, you’ll be pleased to hear about all the on-site facilities designed to make life easy for adults: namely the bar, a café with a daily bread service and a grocery store for all your basics. Night-time is taken care of too, with social evenings, themed dinners and live shows.

Liked Nice sized pitch. Quiet at night. The entertainment/ bar staff etc staff were friendly and welcoming. Toilets and showers were very clean and lots of lovely hot water.
Disliked Local tax cost on arrival was nearly triple the cost on our facture from Pitch up. They tried to charge me twice for my dog. The grass on the pitches hadn't been cut.

Local attractions
Camping Ker Yaoulet is the gateway to the beaches of Morbihan, coastal walks, cycle routes and all the cultural treasures of the region. You’re just 10 minutes’ walk from Tréhervé beach for sunbathing, swimming and rockpooling, while Petite Plage de Kervoyal (10 minutes’ drive) is good for dinghy sailing and paddleboarding. The more adventurous of you can try paragliding over Plage de la Mine d’Or (40 minutes).
If you’d like to explore a typical Breton village, make a beeline for cute little Ambon and its sturdy stone houses. It has several ancient churches and a 16th-century mill to explore, as well as a couple of traditional crêperies for sweet and savoury snacking. For a day out in the ‘big city’, historic Vannes (25 minutes) awaits with walks around its medieval city walls and half-timbered architecture.
Kids will doubtless get bored with heritage visits, but you can treat them to close encounters with pelicans, peacocks and flamingos at the Parc Animalier et Botanique de Branféré (20 minutes). Alternatively, you can all burn off energy on the high ropes at Celt’Aventures (20 minutes), where there are also obstacle courses and mountain bike trails through the woodland.
