If you’ve ever found that having a bit of time to slow down and appreciate nature gets your creative juices flowing, Le Jardin de Ruban, five minutes’ drive from La Celle-Saint-Cyr, would be a great choice of site for your Burgundy break. With spacious and peaceful pitches in a tree-lined meadow and lovely rural views all around, this is very much your classic farm site, but with one intriguing extra – the farm is also home to an artist’s studio, where guests can book in for workshops on request. Looking out over the views around the farm may well give you a good dose of inspiration, but there’s plenty more to feast your eyes upon in the local area – perhaps the colourful installations at La Fabuloserie, the natural views along the banks of the Yonne river or the everyday scenes you’ll see as you stroll around nearby villages and towns. And if it’s not quite happening? Don’t worry – perhaps what you need is some time to relax. And there’s plenty of space to do exactly that at this site, where you can hang out in a hammock, soak in the hot tub or get creative with your meals at the outdoor grill. Compost toilets and a wifi connection are also provided, and you can shower in the owner’s home on request.

Local attractions

Getting out for a walk or bike ride is a lovely way to take in some of your surroundings; there are also horse riding outings available locally, or you may like to hire kayaks in Saint-Julien-du-Sault (10 minutes’ drive) or rent a boat in Joigny (15 minutes) for some time on the waters of the Yonne river. Joigny is also a ‘Town of Art and History’ so it’s well worth spending some time there, wandering among half-timbered houses in its medieval streets and visiting the Resistance Museum and Château des Gondi. For other town strolls, check out places like Sens (35 minutes) and Auxerre (40 minutes), both full of interesting historic sights. Visiting some of the many vineyards around the area may also be on your to-do list while you’re here – and don’t miss the one-of-a-kind La Fabuloserie (20 minutes), a museum packed with unusual art displayed indoors and through the gardens.
