  • Luxury yurts on the edge of the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park
  • Surrounded by woodland and spectacular scenery
  • River on site, breakfast provided, and bushcraft sessions for all ages
Bushcraft, anyone? How about sleeping under canvas but with all the comforts of a hotel... and a rather swish one at that? Bag a stay at Auvergne Naturelle for all the above: this is luxury yurt accommodation on a spectacular park with bushcraft activities laid on for all sizes of adventurous guests. The glamping holidays here are in a peaceful wildlife haven, surrounded by woodland and lush scenery a couple of kilometres from Laval-sur-Doulon. Active adventures are all around this chunk of French countryside, as Auvergne Naturelle is on the edge of the Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Park, as well as close to the Allier river for canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and fishing. Even more handily, a small river flows through the grounds for waterside walks, paddling and dam building. Even with your newly acquired bushcraft skills, there's no need to forage far for eats and drinks, as your accommodation price includes continental breakfasts provided each morning. For other meals, self caterers can make use of the communal kitchen area with gas hobs, fridges, microwave, sink area, utensils, pots and pans, cutlery and crockery, or take it easy (as befits the surroundings) and order homemade evening dinners from the amiable hosts.

Local attractions

This stunning setting is among walks, bike rides, donkey walking, canoeing along the Allier gorges, and swimming in the local lakes at Champagnac-le Vieux (10 minutes' drive) and La Chaise Dieu (25 minutes), which are both lifeguarded in summer. The famed Allier gorges train (Train Touristique des Gorges de l'Allier) can be hailed 45 minutes' drive south, to pass through over 50 tunnels, along high ridges and up sheer slopes. It has three stops on its journey, giving access to hiking trails including the GR 65 and the GR 470, as well as the river for canoeing and rafting. The train puffs along nice and placidly so guests can take in the spectacular scenery; you'll def want to bring your camera. The spectacular volcano of the Puy-de-Dome is an hour and 20 minutes' drive away.
