Set in a 25-hectare pine forest in the Landes region, near Biarritz in Aquitaine, Campotel at Camping Sylvamar is a five-minute drive (or 20 minutes on foot) to the beach. It’s also close to the Basque Country and just a short distance from the Pyrenees, where you can cross into Spain. This lively and family-friendly static caravan park has a spectacular lagoon complex, sure to keep everybody busy with two heated pools, a lazy river, water slides, an aquatic-games area and a paddling pool for young children. Back on dry land, you can also try out archery, kick a ball around on the multisports pitch, and play a few sets on the tennis courts. After some me-time? You can rest assured that the children (aged 5-17) will be happily and safely entertained at the kids’ club, leaving you free for a massage treatment or a sauna at the spa (an extra charge). Foodwise, you’re well catered for on site, with a pizzeria, restaurant and snack bar to choose from, or a takeaway if you fancy eating en famille out on your private decking. If you’d rather rustle up supper yourselves, there’s also a handy mini-market for picking up basics, plus a bakery for your daily baguette. In high season (July and August), night-times are taken care of too, with lots of live entertainment for the whole family.

Local attractions

As well as the caravan park’s pools and games, there’s plenty to keep kids amused close by. Head for the Parc d’Attractions Aquatic Landes (10 minutes’ walk) for its wave pools and twisting water slides, and there are wolves, flamingoes and donkeys at Zoo Labenne, plus a fine sandy beach at Plage Centrale de Labenne (both five minutes’ drive). If you’re not travelling by car, you can explore locally on bikes hired at the site. There are plenty of kid-friendly pursuits in the famous and lovely seaside resort of Biarritz (35 minutes) too, from running around on a seemingly endless series of Atlantic beaches to feeding seals in Biarritz Aquarium (40 minutes) or enjoying the funky interactive art installations at the contemporary Cité de l’Océan (half an hour). Biarritz also offers plenty for romantic days out as a couple: you can try Basque cuisine in its many restaurants, attend a performance at the La Gare du Midi theatre (35 minutes), or simply pick a waterfront bar and watch the sun set over the ocean and the landmark Rocher de la Vierge (40 minutes), topped by a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Mercure Plus 2 bedroom static caravan (semi-sheltered balcony)

Liked: Wir waren dort mit einem 1 jährigen und einem 5 jährigen Kind. Die Anlage ist wunderschön angelegt mit breiten Straßen und genug Platz für das Auto direkt neben dem Mobilheim. Grillen ist erlaubt und ein Gasgrill steht an der Terrasse. Die Poolanlage ist Top! Egal ob für Baby oder Teen und selbst Erwachsene haben Spaß auf den Rutschen. Der Indoor Poolbereich ist perfekt für schlechteres Wetter. Der Spielplatz auf dem Gelände ist auch gerne besucht worden. Denke ich komme wieder!

Disliked: Die Dusche wächselt zwischen warm und kalt. Es ist natürlich schwer für die ganzen Mobilheime konstante Wassertemperatur zu haben deshalb sehe ich es als nicht so schlimm an. Ist ja kein Hotel sondern Mobilheim Camping!

Der Weg zum Strand mit kleinen Kindern ist was weit.

Liked: El bungalow era espacioso y nuevo, con todas las comodidades. El camping nos ha encantado, súper grande, parcelas amplias y aunque es grande está muy buen ubicado todo para que no te queden muy lejos las zonas de agua. Bien cuidado, limpio y recientemente reformado en algunas áreas. Los baños y duchas están súper bien, tienes tu ducha individual cerrada con tu lavabo y espejo, amplias cómodas y limpias. Personal muy amable y hablan perfectamente español. La comida del restaurante y de la zona L’emporter también bien, solo comimos pizza y hamburguesa pero estaban muy buenas ambas y los precios buenos para ser Francia, parecidos a España, camareros muy amables. Las zonas de agua están muy bien, temperatura agradable, nosotros hemos ido la primera semana de septiembre y no había aglomeraciones en los toboganes, supongo que en pleno agosto será otra cosa. En general perfecto, repetiremos sin duda.

Disliked: Como es normal estamos en otro país con otros horarios, pero para nosotros los españoles el supermercado cierra muy pronto al mediodía 12:30 está cerrado y no abre hasta las 17:00
