- A 25-minute drive to Saint-Sever Abbey; 50 minutes to Pau and Jurançon
- Meals available to book; activities, games and classes run on site
Heading to the Landes for wine routes, castles and lakes? In the village of Nassiet, Yourtes Lacroutz is a relaxing and friendly retreat in Chalosse. Between Pau and Bayonne, this part of the Landes has everything from activities in the outdoors (swimming, water parks, fishing and hiking anyone?) to foodie detours and cultural trips (castles, museums and the occasional escape room).
On the site, you’ll catch chickens chatting around – and you’ll be able to collect eggs or pick fruits and vegetables. There are board games and books for a moment of calm and for a more competitive spirit, a football field or games of pétanque, badminton or molki.
Amou, the next village over, has shops, restaurants and bars five minutes’ drive away. For other gourmet dives, there are a couple of farm shops within 10 minutes’ drive of the site or wine tasting along the Jurançon route (50 minutes’ drive).
Each yurt is quite eco-friendly and comes with a private shower bungalow including a sink, shower, and solar-heated water, plus a composting toilet. Soap and shampoo are locally-produced and organic too. You may rent sheets and towels for a small cost per person or bring your own.
As for breakfast, there are options available on site with some homemade ingredients and eggs from the site. You may also book a picnic basket, afternoon tea, dinner or tapas in advance. And to keep you on your toes, the site runs yoga, relaxation workshops, personal development classes and massages (prices apply).

Local attractions
If you’re after a lot of history and culture, start your exploration at Château d’Amou (five minutes’ drive), your local castle. Follow up with a trip to UNESCO-listed Saint-Sever Abbey (25 minutes) and a wander through the medieval streets of Sauveterre-de-Béarn (40 minutes). It’s really worth setting aside a full day for a visit to Pau (50 minutes) too – there’s a lot to see around the historic centre, including a castle and museum.
For more of a nod to the area’s outdoor attractions, head to Lake Agès (15 minutes) for a waterside walk and some fishing, follow the trails at family-friendly La Ferme Ducazaux (20 minutes) or aim for the inflatable waterpark by the lake beach at Orthez (half an hour).
Keeping it all rather more leisurely? Follow the wine route through the vineyards around Tursan (10 minutes), or aim for the one around Jurançon (50 minutes). Reward your efforts with a soak in the thermal baths at Salies-de-Béarn (35 minutes).
