It's free, quick and easy!
- Comfortable site focusing on family activities and entertainment
- On the Médoc peninsula a short drive from sandy Atlantic beaches
- Pool, playground, games room and snack bar
There's a mighty amount to do both on and around Camping les Franquettes, for it's placed at the tip of the Médoc peninsula, a finger of France known for its Atlantic coast, sandy beaches and fab food – and wine.
And the Médoc is part of the Gironde department, where you can also access 125 or so kilometres of coastline and beaches, thousands of kilometres' worth of rivers, and three large lakes… it's safe to say that watersports and beach basking are the order of the day in these parts...
Relaxed and active options for all are at this friendly family site, including a pétanque court and a pool (open daily from 9am until 7pm in high season), and dancing nights and evening entertainment including karaoke, bingo and more.
All ages are looked after: for kids, there's a playground with slides, swings and sandpit as well as tennis, football, volleyball and weekly pétanque tournaments; for teens, there's a games room with pool table, pinball machine and free wifi.
The snack bar is open from 8am to 2pm and 4pm to 10.30pm in the summer (July and August), for early morning coffee with croissants or bread; fast food and quick bites.
Pitches are generously sized and in the shade of tall pine trees. The site is in the centre of Grayan-et-l'Hopital, close to services such as a post office, doctor and taxis.

Local attractions
The Médoc peninsula setting of Camping les Franquettes is five kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean and its sandy beaches. Fab food, wines, forests, lakes and the biggest river estuary in Europe are all close by.
To thoroughly investigate the local cuisine and vino, the team recommends visiting one of the small local markets, at Montalivet or Vendays every morning; Saint-Vivien de Medoc on Wednesday mornings; Lesparre on Tuesday and Saturday mornings and the first Friday of each month; Grayan on Saturday mornings and Gurp on Tuesday mornings.
Also recommended is the cycling of the Gironde region, covering a full 500 or so kilometres of paths and 435 kilometres of trails and bike lanes around towns. The department also has a couple of thousand kilometres of hiking trails, much of which are good for mountain biking.
Les Franquettes's local town of Grayan-et-l'Hopital is eight kilometres from the seaside resort of Soulac-sur-Mer, a top surfing destination around this part of the Atlantic. If you're still yearning for bike rides, the town is the start of a 130-kilometre cycle route that runs all the way south to Cap Ferret.
