  • Safari tents in the Périgord Limousin Regional Natural Park
  • 20 minutes' walk from a large lake with swimming beach
  • Cosy bistro with set menus, pizzas and sociable firepit evenings
Nice to have options on hols isn’t it? Especially if you’re travelling with kids whose whims are liable to change when you least expect it… Vodatent at Camping la Bucherie is a fab choice for folks who favour flexibility, especially when it comes to food. Each of the well-equipped safari tents has a mobile kitchen, allowing you to cook under canvas or wheel your kit out on to the deck if you fancy cheffing in the open air. Prefer the no-cooking-at-all option? Trot over to the excellent bistro for set menus, tasty pizzas, desserts and drinks in the cosy interior or out on the terrace. The bistro terrace is also the venue for high-season sociable evenings with fellow travellers sharing a themed meal, listening to live music or chatting by the firepit. During the day, site staff organise various outdoorsy antics for the nippers, helping them seek out wildlife, build bows and arrows and play team games. If they’re more of a freestyle spirit, there’s a playground, a petting zoo and plenty of space to run about and build dens. Plus of course there’s the option of heading out: you’re in the Périgord Limousin Regional Natural Park for walks, and there’s a swimming beach a kilometre away at Saint Saud lake. Canoeing, caves and city wanderings are all within an hour’s drive too.

Local attractions

There are heaps of hiking and bike trails to follow in the Périgord Limousin Regional Natural Park; keen not to lose their treasured guests, the folks on site are happy to lend maps of some of their fave routes. Cool off afterwards with a trip to Saint Saud lake, a kilometre away, for a swim; there are walking trails, watersports and a sandy beach here too if you want to make a day of it. Prefer to paddle on a river? It’ll take you half an hour or so to get to Brantôme for trips down the Dronne – hire canoes or join guided tours if you need some expert help. Back on dry land, take a pedal-powered ride on the velorail at Espace Hermeline, 20 minutes away, or tackle the treetop adventure course. For city days, it’ll take you an hour to drive to the museums and medieval quarter of Limoges; keeping it country, take the 20-minute drive for an underground tour of prehistoric Grotte de Vilars.
