- Smart well-equipped safari tents at a Dordogne lakeside site
- Just off the N21, within a half-hour drive of Bergerac and Périgueux
- Outdoor pool, lake beach, play area and snack bar with shaded terrace
A handy location just a couple of minutes from the N21, and tents all set up and ready to move into… life could barely be any easier at Villatent at Camping Lestaubière.
Stays at this Dordogne family site are in spacious safari tents that have been set up in the woods on the edge of the village of Douville, roughly halfway between Bergerac and Périgueux (and handily less than half an hour’s drive from both). Each tent has proper beds, a kitchen area and plenty of space to relax under cover or out on the deck.
And that straightforward setup means you can simply dump the bags and get stuck in to all that the site has to offer… perhaps a dip in the outdoor pool, a bit of time with the kids at the play area, a game of volleyball or an afternoon by the lake, chilling at the beach area while the kids leap off the wooden jetty (you’re welcome to do so as well, of course…)
Or you could set out to explore the surrounds instead – this is the Dordogne, so the area’s packed with vineyards, châteaux and markets to visit, and there are various activities nearby including canoe trips, go-karting, golf and treetop trails.
Even the food situation is easily sorted here: the centrepiece of the site is the large terrace where you can relax under the plane trees with a drink, a freshly baked pizza or something else from the snack bar menu. If you’d rather try out your kitchen facilities, pick up bits at the supermarket a few minutes’ walk away.

Local attractions
There are two classic activities one must really tick off on a Dordogne holiday: a canoe outing and a château visit. Tick off the first by heading to a canoe rental place 20 minutes’ drive away, and get your fix of the second by choosing from Château de Montastruc, Château La Renaudie or Château de Barriere, all within 15 minutes (and there are plenty more beyond that if you’re on a proper château-seeking mission).
Food and wine should certainly be on the agenda too: perhaps with outings to the markets in Issigeac, Lalinde and Vergt or a trip to Domain Neuvic (25 minutes’ drive) to learn about its caviar. Head south to Bergerac (25 minutes) for winery tours, following the Route des Vins if you need guidance on where to find some of the area’s best.
Best skip such things if you’ve got the kids on board – steer instead towards family days out meeting the animals at Parc du Touron (five minutes) or scaling the trees at AccroZarbres (20 minutes).
