What customers say

A peaceful, well-kept spot with great, friendly hosts offering nice extras like fresh bread delivery & communal dinners. Lovely grounds, secluded pool, spotless facilities. Some found steps tricky, and one noted the "chateau" was a bit rough, but most loved it and want to come back.

Fully-serviced grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked A beautiful little campsite right in front of a magnificent castle. The owners are wonderful, always attentive, and organize friendly moments (barbecues…). The campsite is calm and peaceful, perfect for relaxing. We had an excellent holiday there and will be happy to come back!

Fully-serviced grass caravan site

Liked What a idilic beautiful Chateau in amazing countryside. We were met by Ilise then Rowland the owner’s who were delightful and most helpful. We had a choice of where to park up and nothing was too much trouble for them both. The facilities were second to none, the pool was secluded and had it all to ourselves. Ilise went each morning early to get fresh bread and quasonts delivered to our door. This is a must stop destination if you’re in the Dordogne region. Thank you both x

Fully-serviced grass caravan site

Liked The owner was a very nice lady, very engaging. There was loo roll and hand soap too, which some sites don’t provide.

Disliked We had to park in a car park because the field was inaccessible due to wet weather, therefore unable to hook up to electricity (which we had paid for).
Disliked the fact that the facilities were difficult to access in the dark due to steep steps and gates. The door to the loos, showers etc was VERY hard to open and I struggled with its weight, so a child would have no chance.
It was an expensive site and was advertised to be in the grounds of a chateaux, in reality the small camp site was in the garden of a run-down, large house.
Not worth the extra money.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are sorry you do not have a positive feeling about our campsite. Electricity is available in the car park, where you stayed for one night due to weather conditions.
Our campsite with 6 pitches is indeed situated in the garden of an old (1795) manor house. This is precisely the charm of our campsite and is appreciated by our guests. As are the large pitches with peace and quiet.
In early season, heavy rainfall may discourage camping on the grass. This can cause a motor home to get stuck. We would like to avoid this, for your sake but also the condition of the grass.

Fully-serviced grass caravan site

Liked Elise and Roland are excellent hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them ! The chateau is in beautiful grounds with many trees and songbirds which for us was very special as we love to see and hear the birds . The nightingales came and sang right outside our van , which was wonderful. It was very peaceful . Beautiful countryside and easy cycling . The nearby caves (grottes) are really worth a visit and the castle at Hautefort. Everyone is very friendly in the region and the countryside beautifully kept . In addition the local wine is very good

Local attractions

Château La Barge is set in hilly Dordogne countryside, a mecca for hikers and mountain bikers – in fact the Grande Randonnée 646 route between Perigueux and Sainte-Foy-la-Grande goes right past the grounds. You can also paddle down the Auvézère by canoe from Cubjac-Auvézère-Val d’Ans (five minutes’ drive). For more cultural pursuits, you have a choice of gorgeous and photogenic Dordogne towns and villages. Start your exploration of the area at the striking Byzantine cathedral in Périgueux (half an hour), or visit the troglodyte caves and Benedictine abbey in Brantome (45 minutes). Historic Sarlat-la-Canéda (50 minutes) has plenty of gourmet restaurants in its labyrinthine medieval centre, and there are lively produce markets there on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Step back in time to visit the magical reinterpretation of prehistoric paintings at Lascaux IV - International Centre of Cave Art (half an hour), or go deep underground and take a boat ride on the subterranean lake at Le Gouffre (90 minutes) near Padirac.
