- Relaxed family-run site 10 minutes' drive from Brantôme
- Swimming pool, outdoor games, barbecues and indoor kitchen
- On the edge of the Perigord-Limousin Regional Natural Park
Belle indeed is the area around Belair le Camping, a small rural site a couple of minutes’ drive from the petit village of Champagnac-de-Belair.
Scenery seekers and active types alike will be rubbing their hands in glee at the outing options here, for it’s on the edge of the Perigord-Limousin Regional Natural Park (a hub for hikes, bike trails and horse rides) and a trifling 10-minute drive from Brantôme (a hive of river-based escapades both energetic and laidback). There’s also plenty to amuse leisure cyclists, who can hire bikes on site to potter around local villages, refuelling with tasty local morsels along the way.
More glee back on site, where there’s heaps of space around the four acres to recover from the day’s efforts, whether they’ve been determinedly paddling down the Dronne or feasting on foie gras and truffles. Outdoor games and table tennis await for those who’ve got energy left over; dips in the pool may be preferable for those who need to cool off a little.
Being surrounded by woodland, there are plenty of shaded corners around should you with to slope off for a snooze, as well as a spacious covered social area with sofas, pool table, big TV and kitchen area (kitted out with a fridge, freezer, microwave and oven). Snacks and essentials can be picked up at the honesty shop; other foodie bits will come from the bakery in Champagnac or the supermarket and market in Brantôme.

Local attractions
‘The Venice of the Périgord’ they call it around here – and while there’s a distinct lack of canals and gondolas, there’s no doubting that Brantôme’s a mighty handsome place. Many a pretty pic has been snapped at the old stone bridge and Benedictine abbey (don’t race round here too quickly – you’ll miss the troglodyte section buried away at the back).
In place of canals, Brantôme’s aquatic activity revolves around the Dronne river, which you can explore by hiring kayaks or paddleboards or boarding a boat trip to delegate captain duties. If you’d rather see some scenery from dry land, take your cycling legs to the Velorail Perigord Vert (half an hour’s drive) to pedal your way along an old railway line.
A château trip must surely feature on any Dordogne itinerary, and you’ll not have to roam far for that – Château de Bourdeilles is a 20-minute drive and the fairytale-esque Château de Jumilhac around 45 minutes. Foodies making their way to this corner of the Dordogne may also like to stop in at the truffle museum in Sorges and the foie gras hub of Thiviers (both about half an hour away).
