It's free, quick and easy!
- Family-friendly site, 15 minutes’ drive from German and Swiss borders
- Located in Kembs, on EuroVelo cycle routes 6 and 15
- Outdoor pool, snack bar, kids’ playground and launderette on site
Fancy a little three-for-one on countries? Camping du Canal may be in Kembs, in French Alsace, but it’s also on the border of Switzerland and Germany. The Dreiländereck monument – which marks the point where the three meet – is a 20-minute drive away in Basel, Switzerland (just in case you needed some proof).
As the name suggests, you’ve got a canal for company here; two, in fact – the site is sandwiched between the Canal de Huningue and Grand Canal d'Alsace, so scenic strolls along the water are a good shout. The pretty wanders continue (along with some birdwatching) if you set off on foot to the National Nature Reserve of La Petite Camargue, and Kembs is also on EuroVelo cycle routes six and 15… exhausted yet?
Efforts done and dusted for the day, it’s time to head back to Camping du Canal for some rest, relaxation and refreshment. Take a dip in the outdoor pool, or put your tired feet up on one of the many loungers surrounding it. There’s also a kids’ playground and trampoline if the nippers have any energy left to burn through. And all that hungry work can be rewarded with a drink and some eats at the snack bar.
Post-outing freshening up can be sorted at the amenity block's toilets, showers and sinks, and the site also has a launderette.

Local attractions
If you’re getting your photo snapped at the Dreiländereck monument (20-minute drive), stick around in Basel to visit some of the city’s sights, including the Basel Minster cathedral and Spalentor 15th-century gateway. The culture continues at Kunstmuseum Basel fine arts museum, or you can opt for some animal-spotting at the Basel Zoo and Tierpark Lange Erlen animal park.
You may as well tick off country number three by doing something in Germany while you’re here, too – the Vitra Design Museum (15 minutes), Laguna Badeland indoor and outdoor fun pools (20 minutes) and the ruins of Rötteln Castle (25 minutes) are a few options.
Back in France, Camping du Canal is 25 minutes from Mulhouse, where the Cité de l'Automobile vehicle museum and Cité du Train railway museum have days sorted for those fascinated by all things that move. The Mulhouse Zoological and Botanical Park and Temple Saint-Étienne church are a couple of the city’s other highlights.
