Jump between a heated swimming pool to a sandy beach skirting the bright blue Adriatic Sea and back again with ease on a European island break at Camping Ugljan Resort… this site surrounded by olive trees for plenty of shade just off Croatia’s Dalmatian coast is all about unwinding beside the water. As well as having beaches a short stroll away – including a special one for dogs within a 300-metre walk – the isle of Ugljan in the Zadar archipelago has 20 kilometres of shoreline to settle down on or take boat tours around when you’re not fishing or playing tennis at the park... If inland adventures take your fancy, you could also hike in the island’s green interior made up of pine and fig trees as well as vineyards or simply sit on site amid the wildlife-rich surrounds, getting up only for practicalities like harvesting veggies from the garden in time for lunch. The site also has a bar and restaurant if you’d rather have someone else cook for you, along with spacious sanitary facilities, coolboxes for hire, and washing and drying machines. While this dreamy idea of island life might make it sound like the park's far from it all, it’s easy to reach from the mainland as it's only a 25-minute boat ride (and just over an hour’s trip door to door) from Zadar. This seaside city’s ferry port is accessible right from the centre, with vessels leaving for Ugljan every hour 27 times a day.

Liked Wunderschöner, spontaner Urlaub mit viel Herz

Wir haben ganz spontan Urlaub gemacht und sind bis nach Kroatien gefahren. Zunächst hatte Pitchup uns einen Platz auf dem Festland empfohlen, den ich beinahe gebucht hätte. Zum Glück habe ich über ein anderes Portal erfahren, dass es dort nachts sehr laut sein soll – und so sind wir auf Ugljan gelandet. Eine Entscheidung, die wir keine Sekunde bereut haben!

Unser erster Platz war zwar nur für drei Tage verfügbar, aber wir konnten danach auf einen anderen Zeltplatz direkt am Meer wechseln – und der war einfach fantastisch! Schattig gelegen, mit genug Platz für unsere Hängematte und direkt in Hörweite der Wellen.

Die nahegelegene Bar war angenehm ruhig und hat das entspannte Urlaubsgefühl perfekt ergänzt. Das Wasser war herrlich klar und ruhig – ideal zum Schwimmen, Tauchen oder um mit dem SUP die traumhafte Küstenlandschaft zu erkunden.

Ein besonderes Highlight war die Herzlichkeit der Gastgeber: Als wir Autoprobleme hatten, hat uns Mitbesitzer Mirko nicht nur mit Starthilfe versorgt, sondern mich sogar zu einem befreundeten Mechaniker auf der Insel begleitet – einfach großartig! Auch das Team an der Rezeption war durchweg freundlich, herzlich und hilfsbereit.

Für das leibliche Wohl war bestens gesorgt: In der Strandbar gab es ausreichend Essen und Getränke, und nur 10 km entfernt befindet sich ein großer Supermarkt (Tommy), wo wir alles zu fairen Preisen einkaufen konnten.

Sportlich hat die Insel auch einiges zu bieten: Eine Radtour in den Westen ist sehr zu empfehlen – traumhafte Ausblicke inklusive! Zum Wandern hat uns die Zeit leider nicht gereicht, aber das holen wir sicher nach.

Liked Piękny miejsce w gaju oliwnym. Na kempingu znajduje się mały sklepik, restauracja na plaży z pysznym jedzeniem. Czyste sanitariaty. Prania. 10 km piękne miasteczko Preko. Mogę polecić z czystym sumieniem każdemu ten kemping.

Liked Sanitäranlagen sehr sauber. Personal wirklich nett und zuvorkommend. Angefangen von Melanie an der Rezeption, über Ana, die super nette Dame im Kiosk oder dem Personal am Strand. Im Markt bekommt man alles für den Grundbedarf. EBike Verleih ging auch super und reibungslos.
Stellplatz war wirklich groß.

Disliked Der "Pool" ist halt eher leider ein Planschbecken für Kleinkinder. Tiefste Stelle 1,60 und sehr klein.
Wenn man jedoch nur ans Meer möchte nebensächlich.

Liked Camping paradisiaco, super organizzato ed attrezzato. Piazzole ordinate e numerate per van/camper, molto ampie e con i servizi del caso inclusi (corrente, acqua, ecc.). Alloggi a disposizione per chi preferisce, spiaggia privata meravigliosa con bar/ristorante. Presente anche una piscina. Servizi igienici impeccabili e staff molto accogliente e preparato. In particolare al check-in la receptionist è stata veramente carina e cortese, spiegandomi tutto nei minimi dettagli. Eccezionale, non credo ci sia aggettivo più appropriato.

Disliked Unica pecca secondo i miei gusti le docce a bottone un po’ scomode, ma capisco che il risparmio di risorse come l’acqua sia anche un’esigenza. Più che un punto negativo è una mia preferenza personale.

Local attractions

Local beaches to bounce between include popular parasol-filled Mostir a 10-minute drive from the site as well as pebbly Batalaža and sandy Jaz (15 minutes). If you’ve got the kids with you, the protected bay of Velika Sabuša is prime for paddling in shallow waters 25 minutes away and you can cruise around on boat tours to other islands on the archipelago through organised trips that start from Ugljan. Trips on Croatia's mainland are also possible from Camping Ugljan Resort, so you can easily explore the mountainous Zadarska županija region and its rivers, lakes and forests. Start with the city of Zadar for the Old Town’s Roman ruins – including the ancient Forum – dropping by the Venetian gates and 11th-century St Mary’s Convent to see religious art from the eighth century too. Just outside the city is Musapstan Forest Park (an hour and 10 minutes drive from the site) to wander through an old wooded area known for its biking and hiking trails. Up for travelling further? You can use the nifty transport options in Croatia to reach one of the country’s top national parks – the bright green Plitvice Lakes – two hours and 20 minutes’ drive from Camping Ugljan Resort.
