  • Well-maintained site five minutes' drive from Hermagor
  • Pressegger See 10 minutes’ drive; Weißenbachklamm trails 25 minutes
  • Outdoor pool, wellness centre, indoor play area and café on site
Active breaks in the Austrian Alps await when you stay at EuroParcs Hermagor – this spacious and well-equipped Carinthia site is in an alpine valley about five minutes’ drive from the town of Hermagor-Pressegger See, putting it in a prime location for all sorts of outdoor antics. What you’ll get up to nearby depends on the season – for summer guests there are lots of mountain biking and hiking trails (ranging from family-friendly to challenging, with a chance of climbing) and several places for wild swims, sailing or watersports. Come along in winter and you can choose from numerous ski slopes with different levels of difficulty around the Gailtal (20 minutes), plus cross-country trails and tobogganing slopes. If you need a little incentive to push you on to the end of your chosen trail, it’s good to know that once you’re back at the site you can relax with a swim in the outdoor pool or unwind with some sauna time and a massage at the wellness centre. Kids have their own pool, where they can splash away happily in shallower waters, and an indoor adventure play area to keep them busy while the grownups soak up the lovely mountain views all around. And of course there are meals to look forward to as well, whether you decide to pick up bits from the site’s food shop, eat in the café or head into town to find a restaurant. For other practicalities, the site has a launderette and an immaculately kept shower/toilet block.

Powered grass tent site

Liked: Freundliches Personal am Empfang. Stellplatz war sauber und gepflegt. Sanitäranlagen und Trinkwasser immer in der Nähe. Alles sauber.

Local attractions

Where to hike? Well, perhaps through the forested gorge and along to a waterfall in Garnitzenklamm (10 minutes’ drive) or along the trails of Weißenbachklamm (25 minutes). The Nassfeld-Pressegger has some great lakeside trails where you can stop for a dip along the way (although some of these mountain lakes can get very cold), or you could stroll along the banks of the Weissensee (half an hour). For other activities, maybe you’d like to take your clubs along to the scenic greens of Nassfeld Golf (15 minutes) or rent small boats and paddleboards at Badestrand Samerhof-Paßriach (10 minutes) on the banks of the Pressegger See. The water here reaches a balmy 28ºC so it’s a lovely place for a swim too – or you could try the natural lake at Erlebnis-Naturbad Vorderberg (15 minutes). Time for a taste of the area’s history? Pay a visit to the castle ruins at Burgruine Khünburg (10 minutes) or head over the border into Italy for a trip to Parco Tematico della Grande Guerra Bombaschgraben Pontebba (45 minutes) to learn about life in World War I as you walk through the landscapes where soldiers lived and fought.
