It’s tempting to suggest that the term ‘seaside’ doesn’t really do justice to Denham Seaside Caravan Park… this Western Australia park is, after all, a place that’s right there on the waterfront at Shark Bay, with stunning sea views all along the frontage. Oh, and it just happens to have its own private stretch of beach… All of that means this Denham park is in a quite excellent spot for those who have their eye on days of sea swims, boating, diving, watersports, fishing (which is world class around here) or simply sunbathing or strolling along the sands. It’s a beach that welcomes pets too, so there’s scope to bring your dog along for a break (depending on your accommodation type). As well as having incredibly easy access to the beach, the park is also in a handy spot for all the town’s amenities too: restaurants, coffee shops, a bakery and a waterfront playground are all within a short walk, as are jetties for launching boats. There’s a play area and games room on site too for extra entertainment for the kids (and often some stunning sunsets that are likely to find favour with the grownups). Denham itself is a great place to explore, seeking out the distinctive shell-block buildings and following the Discovery Trail to find out a bit about the area’s history, but really it’s the seafront and surrounding area that are likely to fill most of your time around here. Excellent walking trails, scenic flights and boat trips all await to show you some of the most spectacular sights around.

Local attractions

Get your bearings with a little walk around Denham, strolling along the waterfront and dropping in to the Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery and Visitor Centre to find out why this area earned its place on the UNESCO list. To see it all from a different angle, take a flight from Shark Bay Aviation to see the red dunes, turquoise ocean and green seagrass from above. The boardwalks at Eagle Bluff (20 minutes’ drive) are great for a coastal stroll, with possible sightings of sharks, rays and turtles on offer; for guaranteed marine animal spottings, head to Ocean Park Aquarium (10 minutes) or try out Monkey Mia Conservation Park (20 minutes), where dolphin feeding happens early every morning. There are plenty of options around if you really want to get stuck into ocean-based activities though: kitesurfing and windsurfing are popular picks (with instruction available), as are snorkelling or diving trips with local providers. You can also join fishing charters, wildlife cruises or boat trips to Dirk Hartog Island.
