- Nature campground among 44 acres of Queensland native bush
- Eurimbula National Park and Agnes Water five minutes' drive away
- Boardwalk, guided tours and moonlight story sessions available
Bushland experience or beach time? You’ll be able to combine both on a break at Traveller’s Rest 1770 Eco Camping – this 44-acre Queensland campground is on the edge of Eurimbula National Park and only about five minutes' drive from the beach town of Agnes Water.
That location makes this a fabulous spot for an outdoor break packed with variety – one day you can be walking along a bushland trail looking out for kangaroos, butterflies and colourful birds, and the next day going surfing, snorkelling or sea fishing (or just chilling out on one of the area's gorgeous beaches, of course…).
This campground is run by Mike and Michi, who have made it their mission to create a place where people and nature can live in harmony – and their efforts have paid off, as this is now the only ecotourism-certified nature campground on the Discovery Coast. Guests here get to stay among native bushland, waking to the sound of kookaburras, looking out for all sorts of wildlife during the day and then settling by the campfire in the evening.
Exploring the surroundings has been made nice and easy, as you can simply set out on a self-guided tour of the bushland boardwalk – it’s accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs, so everyone can immerse themselves in this wonderful natural setting. There’s also the option to deepen your experience with a guided tour or an atmospheric evening at ‘Mike's Moonlit Tales’.
Facilities have been nicely designed to blend into the surroundings – you’ll have access to a covered barbecue area, picnic tables, bathrooms and simple kitchen facilities.

Local attractions
Once you’ve wandered around the campground, you may like to head out to explore more of this area's incredible nature in places like Eurimbula National Park (five minutes’ drive) or Deepwater National Park (50 minutes). Mountain bike tours can be booked locally too, or you could play a scenic round at 1770 Golf Course & Driving Range (two minutes).
The wildlife isn't just on land, of course, so you may also want to join an eco tour along the coast in the big pink amphibious vehicle run by 1770 LARC! Tours (10 minutes), or take a day trip to Lady Musgrave Island to go snorkelling among the turtles and other marine life of the southern Great Barrier Reef.
Back on land, there are some great spots nearby for fishing, watersports and surfing – including hitting the waves at Agnes Water beach, considered to be the northernmost surf beach on Australia’s east coast. For a break from all the activity, learn about the history of Captain James Cook at Agnes Water Museum, or just head to the beach for a sunset picnic.
