It's free, quick and easy!
- Calm and quiet wildlife haven 20 minutes' drive from the coast
- Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads both within 40 minutes' drive
- Handy for the area's annual music festivals
Not only is Maca’s Camping Ground splendidly placed for trips to Mount Jerusalem National Park (a handy 15 minutes’ drive away), it’s got some pretty spectacular views of it too, and the beaches of Byron Bay are a mere 40 minutes by car.
Looking out over the northern New South Wales countryside, Maca’s lies just off the Main Arm Road north-west of Mullumbimby town in the Northern Rivers region, 12 kilometres from Mullumbimby and 30 kilometres from Byron Bay; the closest beaches are 20 minutes’ drive away, and Mount Warning and Mount Uki are both within about 45 minutes’ drive.
The site is in a calm and quiet wildlife haven dotted with macadamia and chestnut trees – while on site (peaceful day and night), collect bags of macadamia nuts and pick mulberries to munch straight from the bush – this place is so chilled and friendly you’ll be planning your return visit even before you’ve had time to settle in.
For birdwatchers and nature spotters there’s heaps of wildlife like bush turkeys and peacocks around too, and if you’re up for getting out and about around the local area (highly recommended), bring a good pair of walking shoes because there’s also plenty of bushwalking to be done up the mountain.
As befits a site as scenic and peaceful as this, campfires are allowed so you’ll be able to spend your evenings out under the stars should that be your pitchside fancy, and if you’re into eating alfresco then the barbecue area takes care of this easily too, with all fare easily prepared beforehand at the well-equipped campers’ kitchen.
The owners are often hailed as friendly, helpful and extra accommodating, providing a shuttle service to several music festivals that take place locally throughout the year when they’re in full swing.
