  • Peaceful wildlife haven in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • Pencaer Peninsula and Pembrokeshire Coast Path 20 minutes’ walk
  • Off-grid camping meadow with spectacular views to the Preseli Hills
Marty and Bev look forward to welcoming you at Trefechan Wen Camping, their wildlife haven on the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park’s dramatic Pencaer Peninsula. In an elevated position with far-reaching views, the campsite faces south-east towards the Preseli Hills – get up early to catch stunning sunrises on clear mornings. This peaceful site spreads over roughly 2.5 acres in two gently sloping camping meadows on a working smallholding. Each tent pitch (and there are only a few) is set among wildflowers and young trees, separated from its neighbour by areas of longer grasses and/or alder, willow, aspen or oaks. In spring and summer, wildflowers including bluebells and foxgloves burst into life, providing a palette of vibrant colour and doing their job by attracting bees and butterflies. By day, you might just spot elusive foxes and badgers slinking through the fields. At dusk, watch bats flitting about and listen out for the calls of owls, and as this is a dark skies area, wait for a cloudless evening to look up at the stars and planets twinkling in the heavens. Facilities are no-frills for a taste of ‘proper’ camping – the site is off-grid and there are a couple of wooden toilet and shower huts, mains drinking water and picnic tables dotted at scenic points around the meadows.

Meadow unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: A beautifully created meadow campsite, close to Pembrokeshire coastal path. So well cared for with lots of attention to detail. A very friendly welcome from Marty who is very knowledgeable about walks and history of the area. Will definitely return, hopefully when the wild flower meadow is in bloom.

Meadow unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Beutiful, wild, easy to get too, lovely owner Mark friendly and welcoming. I love the toilet and shower, water pressure is better than at my home. I was well chuffed about that. Not far from the town. Just AMAZING

Disliked: Not good for caravan longer than 6 mtrs. My caravan is 5.5 mtrs and it was very tight to get out. Narrow road with 90° entry.

Meadow unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Really liked the pitch size and the view from from the field. A brilliant location. Short 15 minute walk down into Goodwick and the other way was walking to the gorgeous coastline. A more back to basics style of camping but that was exactly what we were after and facilities were clean. Marty was very helpful and gave lots of recommendations for walks which was brilliant.

Local attractions

Keen hikers can soon be on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path to follow rugged clifftops around Pencaer Peninsula (both 20 minutes’ walk). Take a camera and binoculars if you’re heading for Strumble Head Lighthouse (90 minutes); reached by suspension bridge, it’s a mecca for oystercatchers and curlews as well as spectacular sunsets over the Irish Sea. History abounds in these parts; turn back the centuries with a visit to the neolithic remains of Foel Drygarn Hill Fort (40 minutes’ drive) or the standing stones at Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber (half an hour). Fast-forward to 1797, when French troops launched an (unsuccessful, fortunately) invasion at Carriage Wastad Point (five minutes), an event marked by a wind-battered clifftop monument with a backdrop of spectacular sea views. If the kids are with you, they’ll thank you very kindly for a day out at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (45 minutes), where they can cuddle patient Shetland ponies, watch giraffes and rhinos in spacious enclosures and have a whizz around on old-world fairground carousels.
