  • Friendly family-run site within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • Clifftop location with spectacular views, sunsets and stargazing
  • A 10-mile drive from Goodwick, 15 from Fishguard and 25 from St Davids
Have a splendid stay among stunning scenery and a warm welcome at Pembrokeshire's Hillfort Tipi and Campsite Holidays, a friendly, family-run and eco-friendly site set high on a clifftop within Britain's only coastal national park. Stargazing, wildlife watching, award-winning beaches, horse riding, quiet country lanes for cycling, and direct access to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path are among the many options easily accessible from this smashingly scenic and peaceful place, along with spectacular sunsets sinking over the Irish Sea, a communal firepit and well spaced-out accommodation with loads of room for all. And might you fancy gazing up into the stellar sights of the clear night sky…? There are no street lights for a couple of miles around Hillfort, so the night sky is unpolluted by light and a top spot for stargazing. (If you're here in August, stick around for the glittering meteorite show.) The site is a wildlife haven, unfarmed for over 60 years and with nature now taking over in a sympathetically managed way: butterfly, moth and bee numbers have all increased, and the wildflowers and grasses on site are all flourishing. Nearby Fishguard and Newport Bay (plus those further along the coast) are well-known Pembrokeshire places for spotting seals, dolphins, porpoises and seabirds. Shared facilities on site at Hillfort include hot showers and toilets and sinks for washing up, set in the middle of the site. Several restaurants and country pubs are within a 10-minute drive.

What customers say

Peaceful, remote site with spacious pitches & stunning views. John's super friendly & helpful. Clean, eco-friendly facilities (compost loos, hot showers). Great for coast path & nature. Mostly glowing reviews, though one found it unkempt.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Beautiful location on a picturesque hill. The pitches are well spaced and private. There is a beautiful viewing point with deck chairs and tables from which you can view the sun setting over the sea and the Strumble head lighthouse in the distance. There are plenty of toilet facilities around the site, The host was really friendly and knowledgeable, suggesting points of interest in the area.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Great site! Fantastic views. Excellent compost toilets! Camping in an ancient Welsh hill fort ... What's not to like? Really friendly welcome on arrival, the owner's top priority is that you have a really good time, enjoy being in nature and respect the environment. Can't fault that.

Unpowered grass campervan site

Liked Great location
Compost loos were really clean and well kept, hot water in showers was good pressure (take flip flops as floor gets muddy!)
Great pitches and spectacular views
Firepits provided and wood for sale if needed.

Disliked We were unlucky with the weather (55mph winds and rain!) so you need to consider yr pitch carefully as the top ones are very exposed! Not a fault of the site but a consideration!

Not sure why we paid the additional £12 for Greener Camping Club as was no different to many other sites we have been to.

Local attractions

Coasteering, caving, hiking, climbing and horse riding are popular picks for local land-based activities; on water, there's the surfing and kayaking at award-winning beaches like Newgale and Whitesands, and kayaking nearby at spectacular Fishguard Bay. If it's wildlife you're after, you've come to the right Welsh place: Hillfort is close to several spots for birdwatching and nature-spotting trips, such as the boat trips to spot seals and dolphins in the likes of Newport and St Brides bays, or around St Davids Peninsula and the wildlife havens of Skomer and Ramsey island. Seabirds, blazes of purple heather and possibly marine critters in the waves below can be seen with a hike along part of the 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, running from St Dogmaels in the north of Pembrokeshire to Amroth in the south. You can access the path directly from Hillfort to hike the few miles to Fishguard; from here, the so-inclined can go on for 12 miles to Newport and the very hardy 14 miles from there to the end of the path at St Dogmaels. No to all that? Catch the mighty handy coastal bus instead.
