  • Well-maintained site half a mile from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Tenby 15 minutes’ drive; Oakwood Theme Park 20 minutes
  • Launderette and playground on site; 100 yards from the A4139
If you're after a peaceful rural location with easy access to beaches and spectacular coastal walks but you don't want to have to negotiate miles of narrow country lanes, check out the handy Pembrokeshire location of Coastland Holiday Park. Split between two well-maintained two-acre fields, this family-friendly site is well set up with far-reaching rural views and a kids’ area with a small adventure course and other play equipment. As well as drinking water, you'll also have access to a launderette and recycling facilities. Barbecues are allowed, but if you want to let someone else take care of cooking duties there’s a pub serving food in Jameston (five minutes’ drive or a 20-minute walk). The park is a 10-minute drive from Pembroke and 15 minutes from Tenby – and both destinations can be reached via the A4139, which runs about 100 yards away. Walks are easily sorted here too: step out of the gate and you’ll soon get to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path (about half a mile away). Once you’re on this long-distance trail, you can hike towards the spectacular bay at Freshwater East (25 minutes’ walk), the castle and surfers’ beach in Manorbier (40 minutes) or the sheltered seclusion of Swanlake Beach (one hour). Sunbathing, swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking await at all of these beaches. If you’re travelling with small children, you might like to drive to Bubbleton Farm Shop and Cafe (10 minutes), where you can have a picnic with a view over fields full of lambs and goats. Or you can explore historic fortresses like Pembroke Castle and Carew Castle & Tidal Mill (both within 15 minutes’ drive).

Local attractions

The animal experiences at Manor Wildlife Park (10 minutes’ drive) are likely to appeal to both adults and children. You can make friends with inquisitive lemurs from Madagascar, feel the soft fur of giant Flemish rabbits or look on in awe as a family of gibbons swing from tree branch to tree branch. Surrounded by 13th-century walls, the town of Tenby (15 minutes) is full of medieval lanes and alleyways lined with independent cafés and shops. There are also some excellent beaches here, or you can take a boat trip to Caldey Island, where you can spot red squirrels or check out the chocolate factory run by the resident monks. If you want to take the excitement up a notch, head to Oakwood Theme Park (20 minutes), where thrilling rides include a wooden roller coaster, a huge drop tower and a sky swing. There are also plenty of rides for smaller children, plus arcades and a miniature golf course.
