  • Dog-friendly Pembrokeshire site on the edge of Lamphey
  • Tenby, Pembroke, Carew and stunning beaches all within 10 minutes
  • Modern amenities, guest kitchen, firepit hire and logs/kindling sales
Castles, coast, stunning views… you'll tick these off within easy reach of any base in Wales: no-one should ever get to say 'Are we there yet' in this fably compact land. But how much handier again to have a seaside town, golden sands and three tiptop old castles within a short drive… and the activities and splendid sights of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park too. Step forward, Dewslake Farm Camping and Glamping between peaceful countryside and spectacular coast – this lush and award-winning site has the aforementioned lot within a short drive. The farm's setting on the outskirts of Lamphey village puts it within 15 minutes' drive of Tenby (and its beach and medieval walls), the stunning golden sands of Barafundle Bay and the aged castles of Manorbier, Pembroke and Carew (must-sees, all). Freshwater East beach, in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, is five minutes' drive away. All this, and campfires too. Blazing up your own flames is encouraged at Dewslake Farm Camping and Glamping: just hire a firepit and buy logs and kindling on site. Home-cooked and home-reared eats are available from outside caterers during school holidays and bank holiday weekends, or you can sizzle up supper for yourself using your alfresco flames or the communal kitchen with double electric hob (and two fridges, freezer and washing-up sink). A shop and a bakery are a couple of minutes' drive away at Lamphey. It's a pick-your-own-pitch setup here, with access to modern amenities including seven hot showers, separate ladies’ and gents’ toilets and a chemical disposal area. The site encourages recycling, laying on daily bin collections so guests can be green with ease. A village pub is within walking distance.

Liked: Loved the site, very nice and clean! The cafe was a great surprise! The pizza and breakfast was amazing! Super powerful showers and lovely location.

Disliked: Only annoying thing was kids and dads playing football for hours in the middle of the fields by our pitch! Maybe have a football only field!!

Liked: Facilities were great. Staff were friendly. Everything was well maintained. The cafe on site was wonderful, pleasure to stay here.

Disliked: Not a dislike and it is a fair policy, but it might be nice to have a field with pitches where dogs are allowed off lead so campers can choose which one they'd prefer.

Liked: The staff were friendly, helpful, welcoming and polite. There's a cafe on-site and an indoor washing up area in the kitchen. There are also a couple of plugs in the kitchen that the staff said I could use to blowdry my hair as long as it was quiet in there at the time. This was particularly helpful as we were staying on the site in cold and stormy weather so having long wet hair wouldn't be ideal. We were also given a nice flat area to pitch our tents making our stay much more comfortable than we've had on other capsites.

Disliked: The curfew wasn't enforced at all so we had some very loud nights camping with people shouting until the early hours and dogs barking (we have a dog and keep him quiet and under control). We were pitched in a sheltered area away from the wind but it was a very long walk to the kitchen, toilets and showers. The showers could do with a window for some daylight and to let out the steam. The campsite would benefit from more toilet blocks around the campsite.

Liked: Thoughtful setup and nice touches such as coffee machine and ice machine in the kitchen, close to the major beaches of Pembrokeshire, helpful staff, tasty food in the cafe.

Disliked: Quite slopey ground, a bit untidy and not easy to find where all the facilities were without help. Didn't necessarily dislike it, but music from the cafe goes on quite late and the sound carries. Wasn't much for kids to do on site.

Liked: Superb from start to finish! Clean, well-stocked toilet facilities with hot, powerful showers. A useful kitchen for storing items and washing up. The on-site cafe served excellent food and drinks - the pizzas were superb and the staff super friendly. We visited on the back of a recommendation by a friend and Dewslake did not disappoint. We will be back again for sure.

Liked: Friendly staff, every interaction with the lovely people who worked at the site was helpful, individual to our need. They asked our preference and directed us to the prefect pitch. There were lots people staying, but it never felt busy. The site is organised in to lots of smallish fields with camping around the outside, with people coming and going daily. We found a quiet spot but our kids still found other children to play with. The facilities are beautifully decorated on the outside and ample for the site. We never had to wait long as all. They have a fantastic restaurant on the site that serves gorgeous food. The staff there were equally friendly and helpful. The evening entertainment at the cafe was a massive bonus. This is our second time here and we will be going back.

Disliked: Nothing,

Local attractions

Tiptop Tenby, one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Pembrokeshire coast, is seven miles or 15 minutes' drive from the farm. Parking can be tricky in high season so the Dewslake Farm Camping and Glamping owners recommend getting the train from Lamphey: once in town, there are two and a half miles' worth of beaches to roam, a handsome centre with independent shops, cafés and restaurants to potter around, medieval town walls including the Five Arches to snap pics of, and the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery for cultured hours and souvenirs. Boat trips leave from Tenby's harbour to Caldey Island. More popular spots nearby are Manorbier beach and castle, and the famed sands of Freshwater East, a long stretch of beach that's a top pick for sea swimming; both are four miles or under 10 minutes' drive away. From Barafundle Bay (15 minutes), hike the clifftop path for about 20 minutes to Stackpole Quay and its tearoom – or park at Stackpole and hike to Barafundle and back again. The surfing waves of Freshwater West are 20 minutes' drive away.
