  • Peaceful site a 15-minute drive from Narberth in Pembrokeshire
  • Saundersfoot Beach 25 minutes’ drive; Tenby half an hour
  • Dogs welcome; playground; just over a mile from the River Cleddau
A 25-minute drive from Carmarthen Bay, surrounded by lush Welsh countryside, New Park Landshipping is a top spot for a Pembrokeshire break – whether you’re into long walks with your canine companion, or keeping small sandcastle builders happy on beaches such as Saundersfoot (25 minutes’ drive) or Tenby (half an hour). Or perhaps you’d like to indulge in a spot of fishing – the eastern arm of the River Cleddau, which is populated with sea trout and salmon, flows just over a mile away, in Landshipping. In addition to well-maintained short-stay touring pitches, the peaceful 22-acre site has an outdoor play area and a launderette with drying facilities, plus a toilet/shower block, a washing-up area and chemical disposal. Barbecues are allowed on site, but since you’re only a 15-minute drive from Narberth, chances are you might want to check out the local restaurants, too. Incidentally, it’s easy to while away an entire afternoon popping in and out of Narberth’s antiques stores or sampling home-made cakes in the town’s pretty coffee shops. The trailhead for the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is at Amroth (25 minutes), and any self-respecting hiker will no doubt want to tackle a section of this long-distance trail, taking in the gentle sweep of Carmarthen Bay or the more rugged coastline south of Monkstone Beach (25 minutes).

Local attractions

Floating inflatable structures and wakeboarding sessions (plus a climbing wall for those who prefer heights to water) await at Wild Lakes Wales (10 minutes’ drive), while Clerkenhill Adventure Farm & Frizbee Golf Course (15 minutes) has bouncy castles and a go-kart track, as well as resident farmyard animals. On the other side of the River Cleddau, Picton Castle Gardens (20 minutes) features areas of dense woodland, plus formal and informal gardens, including a collection of rhododendrons. Keep an eye out for squirrels, hedgehogs and songbirds. (Also, good news for dog owners: well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.) In Tenby (half an hour), the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery illustrates the history of the town and explores its maritime heritage. While you’re on the headland, check out the RNLI Tenby Lifeboat Station, with its steep slipway, and take in the views of the beaches, then catch a boat to Caldey Island.
